What happens when fate intertwines shifters from land and sea?
When Jonah Steele hung a flyer in the local coffee shop advertising his services as a housekeeper, he didn’t expect the town’s hot doctor to hire him on the spot. He definitely didn’t think he’d still be working for the mysterious older alpha two years later. But something about Dr. Pictou keeps Jonah returning to the big house on the cliff, a bone-deep longing he can’t explain—and recently, it’s been making Jonah crave the good doctor in ways he shouldn’t.
Dr. Edwin Pictou couldn’t say why he hired the young omega lynx to clean his house, but Jonah had ensnared him at first sight, and now, even though he really doesn’t need a housekeeper, the thought of letting Jonah go is unsettling. When Edwin comes home to find the omega—who he’s started to think of as his own—in heat, he realizes there is more at play than he first thought. Fate has intervened, and Edwin has no intention of ever letting Jonah go again.
Jonah and the Narwhal is the first story in the Land and Sea shifter MPREG series featuring fated mates, pleasurable partial shifts, and the beginnings of a found family. This story has been expanded from its original version into a full-length novel.
REVIEW:
Jonah and Edwin have been acquainted for over two years. Jonah cleans the shifter doctor’s home as part of his side hustle after he finished college and was setting up his graphic design business. Merritt Lucas, his roommate is a grad student who studies shifter anthropology. He and Jonah have been trying to figure out what kind of shifter Edwin is. They know it’s a sea creature but can’t figure out what.
Lynx shifters reach sexual maturity at 24 and shortly after his birthday, Jonah finds himself feeling off and he’s even more drawn to Edwin’s house than he normally is. When Edwin comes home early and finds Jonah has gone into heat, well he finally knows that indeed this is his fated mate and so he has to help him 😉
Jonah consents and realizes this is why he’s been drawn to Edwin for the past two years. They claim each other and soon their is a baby on the way. But what does that mean? What kind of baby will a Lynx and Narwhal have? For sure it’s going to be fascinating 🙂 But Merritt and Everett are keen to be there for this unique event!
When the time comes, well let’s just say it’s unexpected, but a joy 🙂
This is the first in a series of shifter tales that sets up this particular world. I enjoyed the various unusual shifters here – especially the Narwhal which still seems like something of a fantasy creature even though it’s real! I actually was motivated to learn about them more than I had known before. Edwin is definitely the older alpha but his love and care for Jonah, his much younger omega lynx shifter mate is adorable. This is a very sweet story – some might say it’s too sweet with little to no conflict/angst at all. Jonah’s best friend, graduate student wolf-shifter Merritt and Edwin’s best friend Dr. Everett Voda, an Orca shifter OB doctor are their main support system. There is a LOT of sex (typical of fated mate/heat/mpreg stories) with some unusual “twists” shall we say. It’s definitely a unique take on this interspecies couple. I can’t wait to find out what’s up between Merritt and Everett in the next book 😀 I would have maybe liked more conflict, but if you’re in the mood for a sweet low-angst read with a happy ending, then you might enjoy this one.
Declan Winters is a total pro. His voices for the individual characters were distinct and perfectly performed here. The appropriate older alpha growly Edwin is the delicious. The young and more naive Jonah is believably breathless in the discovery of his mate and the ensuing relationship building days. Merritt is a sweet and vulnerable wolf shifter who needs his best friend. Everett is a commanding and competent doctor who doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind and present his advice. I enjoyed the side characters as well in Jonah and Edwin’s family member. In my opinion, the stellar narration actually elevated this story. Recommended and I can’t wait for the next audio in this series.
