Book tropes you love reading and book tropes you hate reading
I love most tropes, but some of my favorites are the cowboy, rugged men tropes. They’re fun and about as far from my real life as possible. I think that’s the beauty of the trope. It let’s us know the kind of story we’re going to get and yet with each book, I want the writer to put a twist on it, give me something surprising. I’m working on a story at the moment with a secret baby. Though my twist on the trope is that it’s a secret from everyone. The mother has passed and the child is being raised by his uncle. In this case, he believes he knows who the father is… but then it turns out he doesn’t. That’s the beauty of a trope, it gives is a roadmap of the story, but we need to veer left or right in order to make the story interesting.
There is one trope that I don’t care for. It’s the gay for you trope. In my opinion that trope needs to die because it diminishes the idea of what every LGBTQ person has to go through in order to figure out who they are and their place in the world. It also makes being LGBTQ sound like it’s a choice and I don’t believe that. Okay, so now I’ll get off my high horse.
