Nero Hunter is tired. He’s tired of early mornings chasing down skips. He’s tired of Shamu jokes and dealing with idiots. He’s tired of being alone. But agreeing to do one little favor for a friend turns the tide and brings Nero face-to-face with his destiny.
Felix White is unlucky. When his life is threatened and he’s hauled into police custody for safekeeping, the last thing he expects is to meet his fated mate. Especially when his mate is a giant killer whale shifter, who is also his new bodyguard.
But there is more to the plot against Felix than meets the eye, and Nero and his brothers have to work together to figure out who is after Felix before it’s too late…before Nero loses the mate he just found.
Black & White is book one in the Organization for the Return of Criminals and Assets (ORCA) series featuring an orca shifter art thief turned bounty hunter, a sea otter shifter hacker who might have pissed off the wrong people, and a group of orca brothers who will do anything—even if it’s not quite legal—to save the newest member of their family.
REVIEW:
Nero is a good bounty hunter – in both his human and orca form 😉 He’s just caught a bad buy and his happy for a big payday when his “friend” at the Seattle PD has another job for him. He needs somebody to watch over an asset that has been targeted. Unfortunately they don’t know who is looking for Felix, the asset who is a hacker. Nero has a whole spiel ready for why he can’t. Then he meets Felix.
Felix is a hacker who has been working on a case when he’s sent a death threat. The PD take is very seriously and have him in custody, but it’s going to take time to figure out where the threat is coming from. Felix is getting antsy just waiting around when he meets Nero. He recognizes the scent of an Orca shifter and he realizes pretty quickly that this guy is his mate. Luckily Nero realizes it too and he agrees to be Felix’s bodyguard while the authorities work on finding whoever it is that is threatening Felix.
After some drama and unforeseen obstacles, Felix joins Nero at his home. There he meets Nero’s brothers – Quin, Julius and Cal. (Side note: these names are PRECIOUS and clever given the background of this family!!!) Julius is also a computer genius and they have a lot in common. When Felix finds out more about Nero’s family, he suggests that they go into business together – setting up O.R.C.A – the Organization for Recovery of Criminals and Assets 🙂 They can all put their skillsets to use and work together. However, Nero is more concerned about making sure that Felix is safe.
Of course you just know it cannot be that easy. So when a miscue means Felix is once again in danger, the whole family – along with some unexpected outside help – has to pull together to make sure Felix is safe and back in Nero’s arms.
This is a really fun intro to a new series by Vinni George. This is the first fantasy/paranormal/supernatural book I’ve read from this author and I really liked the world she’s created here. The shifters are unusual and the setting is my favorite part of the country – the Pacific Northwest! The MCs are opposites in a lot of ways, but they fit together after their surprise meeting courtesy of the Seattle PD. Nero is a big guy who uses his physical strength in both his human and orca form to chase down the bail jumpers. Felix is all computer geek/nerd. But when they realize they are mates – well they are determined to learn about each other and they are both really happy about it 🙂 Nero’s brothers are quite the motley crew and provide a lot of support for them – as well as comic relief. The sibling bickering and surprising skill sets lay the groundwork for the upcoming books in the series. There are high stakes as they try to solve the riddle of who and why someone is gunning for Felix. The brothers come together – and have some outside help – to figure out what the person who is threatening Felix is really after. While one piece of the puzzle is solved here, there is a larger game in play and it’s going to require more work on the part of the Hunter brothers and Felix and friends to figure out just who is really pulling the strings and looking for what Felix may have accidentally uncovered in his hacking. There is plenty of action, suspense, romance and heat in this one. A really fun ride from start to finish! Recommended.
