BLURB:
A distant island in the blustery north holds a secret – a clan of shapeshifting sea dragons called the Agnarra, all but wiped out by humans a generation ago. For Morgan, a lone artistic soul among his practical people, life on the island is incredibly boring. That is, until a human ship explodes on the horizon, causing fear among the clan.
In the aftermath, Morgan finds a human in the water – Auban – badly injured and with no memory of his past. As Morgan nurses him back to health, he can’t help but fall in love. But their love is forbidden – Morgan’s people, especially his fierce older brother, would kill Auban if they knew he existed. It’s up to Morgan to keep him a secret until they can find a way for him to escape the island.
But secrets never last, and neither does the Agnarra’s new peace. War is coming, and Morgan must use all of his wits and Auban’s help to save his clan from annihilation.
Seamark is an M/M fantasy romance featuring dragon shifters, hurt/comfort, and a slow-burn love affair that turns white hot by the end.
REVIEW:
Morgan is an Agnarra sea dragon who lives with his clan on a secluded and remote island. He’s not interested in fighting or farming – he’s an artist at heart. His brother Brevaer is leading the training in defense. Sariel, their clan chief has suffered a breakdown after their clan was attacked by humans and they lost many of their people and fled to the island they call home now. His wife guards him fiercely and his son Garen, is Morgan’s best friend who is also hopefully in love with Brev.
One day they are living their lives when they hear a blast and a ship explodes on the horizon. A human ship. Dread fills the Agnarra and while the are not attacked and no other ships are found, they being to train in earnest, worried that the humans are coming. Morgan is less than thrilled about this.
Then Morgan finds a survivor floating unconscious in the water. He can’t do anything except try to help the man. He hides him in a secluded overhand and binds his burn wounds and gives him water. The man is gorgeous – red hair and blue eyes. Morgan is smitten. When the man finally rouses and can converse, he has no recollection of who he is or why he is there. He doesn’t remember anything before being rescued – it’s just out of reach.
Morgan continues to visit daily and take care of the man he has deemed Auban. He’s getting stronger, but is still weak and needs a lot of help. Morgan brings him food and clothing. Surprisingly Auban is not surprised nor is he put off by Morgan’s sea dragon form. But as the clan continues to ready for a fight, Morgan is determined to make sure that Auban can get away. If anyone from his clan finds a human, well the consequences will be dire. And now that Morgan has fallen in love with Auban, he can’t stand the thought of Auban not getting away and living his life.
Oooooh this was a delightful story! Morgan the sea dragon is a delight 🙂 He doesn’t really fit in with his clan and he’s been under the thumb of his older brother since they fled to this new island. He barely remembers his old life. No one has caught his eye in his clan, but he is intrigued immediately by Auban. That is a surprise for everyone. There are sweet times of them together. Garen is Morgan’s best friend and his only confidant really. He’s conflicted though by his love for Brev and his loyalty to Morgan. There is a fantastically surprising ending that made me so happy! Fear not – all’s well that end’s well 🙂 Recommended for fantasy fans especially.
