Forbidden Desires, Book 8
Bertram Drake, the most mysterious Drake brother, leads a life shrouded in secrecy. Taken from his brothers at a young age and shaped into a weapon to be used by the dragon council, he has one sole purpose: obey the orders given to him, no matter what they might be.
Once a perfect jewel of the Pedigree, Sorin’s sparkle has been dulled. Taken from his cloister and sold regularly to the highest bidder, he has learned two vital truths.
The first: that dragons are monsters who will stop at nothing to get what they want.
And the second, most terrible truth of all: that egg madness is a lie—omegas are not saved from a lifetime of pain even when they are separated from their eggs.
When Sorin’s newest buyer mysteriously dies, Sorin sees it as his chance to escape from the hellish life he’s been forced to lead. The only obstacle? A handsome agent of the council who has been tasked with ending his life.
… and who has custody of his eggs.
Raven: Part One is a 100,000 word omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set prior to the events of the Forbidden Desires series. With a lazy swirl of his hand, a dollop of flame popped into existence above Frederich’s index finger. It hovered there idly, flickering and sputtering. “Are you planning on sleeping now?” Frederich asked. “Or will you stay up a bit longer? The boys will be up at first light, I’m sure—I’ve heard it said whelps are quite active. These sunless hours may be the only ones we get to spend alone together for quite a while.”
Sorin’s gaze drifted from Frederich’s face to the ball of flame above his finger. It shuddered, pulsing upward, as Frederich poked at it. “How long is a while?” he asked.
“About three years, I’d imagine.” Frederich gave the fireball a particularly spirited poke. “That’s around the time whelps first begin to transform into boys.”
“Is that around the same time you’ll be ending my life?”
Frederich made a noncommittal noise.
He flicked his index finger against his thumb and sent the fireball into the air. It hovered high over the bed, then exploded into starlight that spread throughout the room.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” Frederich said, dodging the question. He tucked his arms behind his head and watched the tiny points of light that hung suspended overhead. “Normally I would have waited until daylight to ask this, but I’m afraid it’s been weighing on my mind for quite some time, and if I don’t get it out now, it might get stuck there forever.”
“What is it?” Sorin came to lie on his back next to him, resting his head on Frederich’s arm so they were looking up at the lights together.
Frederich said nothing for a while, then took a steadying breath and untucked his free arm, swirling his finger through the air. The lights began a slow orbit, like flower petals caught on the surface of moving water. “When we were intimate for the first time,” he said as those petals swirled, “you asked me to put eggs in you.”
Sorin stared past the lights at the ceiling. “Yes. I suppose I did.”
“Were you being serious?”
Sorin said nothing.
He didn’t know if he could.
“I figured it was bedroom talk and nothing more, owing to your past, but…” Frederich pinched his fingers together, gathering all the glimmering lights back into a singular flame. It flickered, then popped out of existence, leaving them in the dark. “If one day it were to happen, would it please you to bear my clutch? Or would it only hurt you more?”
Sorin simmered in the darkness.
It was a long while before he admitted, “I don’t know.”
“That’s fair.” Frederich pushed air through his nose—a humorless attempt at a laugh. “You owe me no answer. Truthfully, I shouldn’t have asked. The council would never grant me sanctions to have another clutch, and even were they willing, my next window of opportunity would be well outside your lifetime.”
Something in Sorin’s chest clenched. “Oh.”
“I’m sorry.” Frederich really did sound repentant. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. It was just… something I needed to know.”
Sorin pressed his lips together, struggling to fight off a frown. It shouldn’t have bothered him. He was destined to leave this place and never return. There was no future for him here.
And yet…
“Were I to live forever,” he asked, “would you want me to give you another clutch?”
Frederich did not hesitate. “I would like that very much.”
