Yichen is free at last…sort of.
He has escaped his imprisonment, but he’s still blood bound to the crown prince of the fae.
Oh gods, how is he going to explain that to his clan?
Finding a way to break the bond might not be too hard. Killing the king of the fae even seems possible.
But there’s no way he can let go of the elf who protected him, risked everything for him for a hundred years?
Rei is the breath in his lungs, the blood in his veins, and the beat of his heart. Somehow, he has to find a way to keep him.
An elf can fall in love with a vampire, right?
REVIEW:
This is Book Two of a spinoff series from Ms. Jocelynn Drake, Kings of Chaos, Two Thousand Tears, where we follow the adventures of a new Vampire clan in town, the Zhang Clan. If you remember The Lords of Discord and the Varik Vampire clan, we will be visiting them again in this series and all these events happen in their neck of the woods.
If you have read Book One, the story of Chen and Moon, we know the purpose of why the Zhang clan is in town, they are trying to retrieve their kidnapped brother, Wu Yichen. Yichen was kidnapped a century ago by the fae. As the century finishes, the fae realm is due to make another appearance in the human realm. They are getting ready to rescue their brother as soon as the door opens again.
In the century since Yichen has been kidnapped, he has been tortured by the fae, only one being has saved him from these tortures, the crowned Prince, Rei, and all these years, they have protected each other. As the heir to the throne, Rei has been subjected to more than his fair share of assassination attempts from his kind and others. His father and mother are the authors of these attempts as they do now want him to ascend the throne. They do have a different way of showing you you are not needed or that you are being hunted because of envy or just pure greed.
Rei has been fighting for his life since a young age, his father and mother want him dead so that he cannot ascend the throne. When he save the Vampire captured by letting him drink from him, a blood bond was formed. Now Yichen cannot drink from others, only from Rei. A hundred years of protecting each other, of being there for each other and depending on each other, how can they let go when their hearts only want each other?
But first things first, they have to break that blood bond, right? And then they have to kill the King and Queen and then they can decide their fate. Rei doesn’t really want to sit on the throne, he would rather stay in the human realm with his Yiyi. Yichen would follow Rei back into the fae realm to kill the king and queen, he would never let Rei go without him, he couldn’t bear the thought of losing Rei.
I knew this book would bring out all the feels and tears from me, the angst and the pain that these two went through in order to survive, together, and still fighting for what their hearts want can make one break down in tears and root for them all the way. Being there for each other has been their way of living for a hundred years. How could they stop now? Ms. Jocelynn Drake has created amazing characters with amazing stories. And the fact that we get to visit the Varik clan once again is a great bonus. I love it!
Well-written and evenly-paced, a great read through and through. Thank you once again Ms. Drake, another bestseller for sure. Looking forward to the third book, Two Thousand Blades.
