BLURB:
I never thought my life would turn out like this. I left Creekside Township at the age of sixteen full of hope, headed to Metro City to pursue my dream of chasing down murderers and thieves.
Instead, my innocence was stolen.
Now, I can’t sleep or relax without distractions. My life and desires are messed up.
I’m broken.
I’m a lone wolf that seeks pleasure for pleasure’s sake. I’m also the youngest detective the Metro City police department has ever promoted to head a murder investigation.
I prefer to work alone, but the sergeant has other ideas, forcing me to work with a human partner. Even when my new partner sees my dark side, my life in the shadows, he doesn’t run.
For the first time in a long time, I feel it … hope.
Lone Wolf is a standalone spin-off from the Creekside Township Rivals series. One of the main characters, Mason Black, is the son of Lucas and Adam Black, the fated mates in Book 1 – Lucas’ Omega.
This story is a mix of murder mystery and wolf shifter mpreg romance.
REVIEW:
I was deeply saddened when my Creekside Township Rivals ended. That Universe that JT Fader created entranced me and kept luring me back. So I am thankful that this new series is a spin-off of that wonderful series.
Mason Black was the second son, third pup of twelve, for East Creekside pack leader Lucas and his omega mate Adam and he presented as an omega. He left Creekside Township right after his first (and only) hunt after he could shift at 16. His parents had been devastated but he had plans. Now he’s leading his first homicide investigation as lead detective. Mason “was one of the youngest detectives the Metro City police department had ever employed.” But, of course, his Sargent had to assign a second in command, whether he wanted one or not, Arnold “Arnie” Jones. What Mason doesn’t understand is why there is such a pull to his new partner? He doesn’t do relationships or even repeats and never with someone he works with. Especially how the human world view his needs as kink. And with his past relationship, committment and trust are non-existent! But Arnie pulls to him. Just like he is called to Arnie!
I loved getting to see one of Lucas and Adam’s pups all grown up. And the special dynamic that formed between Mason and Arnie. It hurt to know that Mason was the way he was because of the horrendous domestic abuse that his ex Blaine had done to him. And that he had to seek alternative methods to cope with his inability to shift in Metro City and also his no relationship/trust required the restraint he has set up. I was so thankful he let down his guard with Arnie. Arnie saw immediately that Mason’s past was triggered by Rockford’s abuse of his ex Bryan. And he had the patience plus the unexplainable draw to be near Mason, protect him and love him. It wasn’t going to be easy but Arnie was his one and he was Mason’s and that made all the difference for both.
This was a very fascination book full of all kinds of twists and turns that keep me on the edge of my seat both with the murder investigation and the personal relationship factor. I didn’t see a lot of that coming. This review was a bit difficult to write because I didn’t want to give any surprise twists away. Author JT Fader continues to keep me on my toes with her creative and loving matings. And now she includes the detective investigators that are in the big city where humans and wolf shifters have learned to cohabitate. I am really looking forward to this new series as much as I did it predecessor. Great writing by a gifted storyteller.
