Enzo is running for his life.

In his desperation, he breaks into a strange old mansion in search of help.

What he finds instead is Hill.

Huge, strong, mysteriously scarred, the man allows Enzo to stay under one condition — that he will obey Hill as a god, and do anything the man desires.

But Enzo’s savior and sanctuary may prove to be more terrible than what he was originally running from.

REVIEW:

Daniel May is a new author for me, so this was my first introduction.  There were a lot of aspects of this story that were promising and I didn’t really find any fault with the writing style itself.  The story is about a young man, Enzo, on the run from a bunch of bad people when he ends up at the gates of a creepy mansion. He breaks in and believes he has found refuge but everything isn’t as it seems.

Hill is the scarred giant of a man who resides in the mansion.  They strike a deal for Enzo’s safety which seems to be working for both of them but things take a turn rather quickly and the darkness ensues.
While I enjoyed certain parts of this story, I was a bit disappointed that it felt like a lot of details were missing.  We never learn why or from whom Enzo is running, nor do we actually learn much about Hill, when there are clearly interesting backstories for each.  Further, after things heat up, they just end somewhat abruptly and everything seems to go back to where they started leaving many unanswered questions and possibilities.

I am intrigued enough to delve into another story by this author and hope to find something a bit more involved and fleshed out.  If you’re looking for a quick somewhat dark, somewhat smutty fantasy read, maybe this would be worth giving a try.
