Love in the spotlight is not made to survive. Will we?
Blurb
Reed: Tate Aduma is a Hollywood actor that everyone wants and no one really knows. Our first meeting as young dreamers sparks a decade of incredible highs and lows.
I’ve loved him, I’ve hated him, and I can’t live without him.
But I know that love in the spotlight is not made to survive.
Will we?
Tate: Reed Larkin is the only constant in my chaotic life of movie sets, parties, and nameless lovers. But while being on stage is second nature, being myself in real life is a role I struggle to play.
Then I’m offered the biggest part of my career, working alongside Reed as my co-star, and my love interest.
This time, however, neither one of us is acting.
Co-Star is a best friends to enemies to lovers, MM romance filled with combustible chemistry, indelible love, and a HEA a decade in the making.
“You’ve probably had people falling all over you since forever. Telling you you’re beautiful and let’s face it, when you look like you do, doors open. You don’t need to bust them down like the rest of us.”
I crossed my arms, my temper igniting. “Doors have not opened. And I work my ass off!”
“I didn’t say you didn’t. But I think you came to LA under the assumption that you were gonna make it fast. But the reality is, if you’re not related to anyone famous, it ain’t happening overnight. Even for someone as pretty and talented as you.”
“Look who’s talking, Mr. Dark and Dangerous,” I scoffed. “Most of the people you meet are ready to drop to their knees for you.”
“I told you how I feel about you saying shit like that,” he bit out.
“Which part?”
Tate’s face flushed a dark red. “All of it.”
“Enjoy the rest of your night,” I snapped, and started to walk around him.
Tate grabbed my arm. “Ree, I didn’t intend to insult you. But you gotta admit, gorgeous people have an advantage. And sometimes it makes them lazy or complacent.”
“This is LA, Tate, everyone is gorgeous! I’m not a standout. If I was, and if what you said was true, I’d be a star right now. And you call me lazy one more time and you can sleep on the goddamn balcony!”
“I said it makes some people lazy, not you. Don’t twist my words.”
I arched one eyebrow, but it had no effect on him.
He sighed. “I just meant that you had certain expectations when you got here and just because it’s taking longer that you thought, doesn’t mean it won’t happen. You have a presence that draws people to you. Fuck, even grumpy asses like me. And your day is going to come. I know it. You know it too.”
I took a deep breath and nodded. “I just want it so bad. And Rik keeps getting me auditions for bit parts on TV when I want the movie roles. And he won’t tell me why. I mean, any job means money, but this is my dream. I’m a good actor.”
“You’re a great actor, but Rik needs to go. Want me to talk to Henn?”
“Why not? But quietly. I don’t want to alert Rik just yet. Not until after this audition.”
Tate nodded. “Are you still pissed at me, or do you want to go out?”
I cocked my head and planted my hands on my hips. “Mexican?”
“You know it.”
The next week, I got the part. And then I switched agents.
And Tate was right.
The stars were finally aligning.
Tate won his role too.
He jokingly called me his lucky charm. We celebrated our first movie roles by getting drunk and getting matching four-leaf clover tattoos on our hips, me on my right, him on his left.
We were riding high, and nothing could stop us.
But acting was a career with no clear direction. One week you were up, the next down, the next out entirely. There were no guarantees, no security.
You only had today.
Living in the present was easy for us.
But eventually, the past has a way of catching up.
Ava Olsen writes steamy and dreamy contemporary romances filled with heartwarming characters, cheeky banter and swoony moments.
