REVIEW:
Yay 🎉 We get Nox’s story too! I’m loving this series!
Nox is a Nightmare…literally! He doesn’t live by human rules. He’s existed long before they were even a thing because he is so ancient. And yes they are providing a place to live and all but a boy has to have new things and designer boots are expensive. So he does what any one would do in his situation. He uses his “gifts/abilities” for hire. Have a horrible ex that’s causing troubles? No problem! For the mere fee of three hundred dollars or a one inch strand of unicorn hair you can have their dreams turned into nightmares. And the best part, his bestie is the owner/developer of the app Monster Match so he can meet up with these problem ex’s and attach a wisp of his shadow to them to know when they are asleep to conduct his business. And since feeding on them during this nourishes him it’s a double win. But when a slimy Merman tries to hire him he gets a vibe that what he’s telling him isn’t quite true. Little did he realize that not only would this job lead to him meeting his fated mate, something he didn’t even realize was a possibility, but that he had to protect this human from the evil Merman and his unsavory use of his Mer-magic. But can an eternal creature older than time and a NICU N year human with a tragic past really form a lasting relationship?
We first met Nox, Dani’s candy and waffle craving bestie when he appeared in His Primal Kiss and made sure that Dani was safe. I mean fashionista best buds stick together in a town full of Monsters. The fact that Dani had been cursed with a ghost that followed him around and made sleep non existent cause Nox concern and he had to watch out for his buddy. And the fact that he doesn’t need food for nourishment but Dani introduced him to the best possible food ever. I mean Waffles…duh! Tiny little cups to hold sugary goodness in the form of syrup was right up his alley!
I will be the first one to admit that this series pushed my boundaries/thoughts a bit. I had no idea that there were these creatures called Nightmares. And that Mer-man crap, with his magical powers to literally will Cyrus to be his human sex toy, was beyond disgusting. But Nox learned a new way to use his abilities for making money and helping those who were in need. That was pretty cool. And I think these experiences cemented to him the necessity of using your powers for good.
One of the things I especially like about this author is how she works with other authors on a multi-author series so the series flows so nicely. This is very apparent with this book as well. The characters in Kota Quinn’s book and hers interacted so well and was a welcome surprise. I love that we met Nox in His Primal Kiss and fell in love with the cutie pie and then we got to keep in touch with Dani and Maddox in Nightmare for Hire. And that Maddox showed Nox that using your gifts for good is the best/right way.
Big thumbs up 👍 for me with this book!
