Can Calvin and Owen stop the mayhem, thwart the vampires, and find true love, or will everything go up in smoke?

REVIEW:
I love the Morgan Brice mega verse and this story just fits in with all the rest of her paranormal series. What a great first book in this series. I love historical novels and this one has the added bonus of including paranormal characters. Which makes for a great story telling combination. Definitely a slow burn, but when they get there it’s off the charts hot. I loved the world building in this book, Morgan incorporates so many element’s form 1890’s America. In a way that only Morgan, she also incorporates the fantastical paranormal world. Which, let’s be honest is my favorite genre. The 1890’s makes for a great backdrop for this paranormal story. As usual her characters are all well developed and period appropriate and must come with some emotional baggage. There are some exceptional side characters in this one as well. The newspaper reporter, the Butler, and the Pinkerton agent are super fun additions to the story line. And can I just say, how cool would it be to have your own Pullman car to travel the rails of the 1890’s. I feel Morgan out did herself when creating the baddies in this series. Vampires, hellhounds, zombies, oh my. Just a plethora of evil, that just jumps off the page at you. When it comes the prose, its so absorbing and I couldn’t stop listening to it.
Now that I have covered the brilliance of the book… I must exclaim from on high – that this has to be John Solo’s best audio performance to date. I admit, I listen to a lot of John Solo’s work and I can always tell when he is thoroughly enjoying the words and it shows in his performance. His voice work was spot on for both main characters as well as the four sidekicks. Sometimes, you can tell when a male narrator is trying really hard to voice a female character. But when John does it, it’s a seamless transition into the voice and I never get jolted out of my listen. I thoroughly enjoyed Morgan’s words, that John so beautifully brought life. From beginning to end, I was drawn in to this world and didn’t want to leave.. The sexy times are exceptionally well performed and not to over the top.
I highly recommend this audiobook. If you love historical, paranormal stories as much as I do. Run to your favorite audio book purchasing site and grab this story up as fast as you can. I can’t wait for the next book in this series, so I can grab my earbuds and get lost in this world so brilliantly written by Morgan Brice and performed just as brilliantly by John Solo.
