I am Mackenzie Country born and bred. Farming the high country runs in my blood, like my father, and his father, and my great grandfather before him. My future has been mapped out for me since the day I was born. Or at least it was, until Liam Skelton walks onto Lane Station, lights a fire in my heart, and turns my whole world upside down.
Bossy, tatted, and out and proud, Liam is everything my father abhors.
And I want him.
Badly.
But having a chance with Liam means risking everything. My family. My future. And my life in these mountains that I love.
Still, the heart wants what it wants, and mine wants Liam.
With so many things against us, maybe we don’t have a chance.
Maybe we’ll crash and burn.
Or maybe we’ll find a way to have it all.
REVIEW:
This is the third book of the series A Mackenzie Country Story from Ms. Jay Hogan and it is the story of our beloved Jules Lane and Liam Skelton. If you’ve read the previous two books in the series you would know that after their father kicked Zach out of their station, Jules has taken over the managing of the place especially after their father suffered a stroke. Jules has always been an obedient child, he doesn’t really want to rock the boat especially now that Zach has chosen another path to follow. But he knows that by doing this he has put himself his last priority. He needed to focus on the station and the people who works hard on it, make sure that it survives.
Jules’ and Zach’s father is a bigot, thus when Zach came out, he was banished from the station. So Zach went and live in the Miller Station which is owned by Holden and his partner Gil. Zach is now with Luke who happens to be Gil’s ex-husband. Interesting dynamics, right, but oh so right for these guys, they are with their soulmates now.
When their father had the stroke, rehabilitation was not far behind, and Norma, their mother, secured the best Occupational Therapist there is, Liam Skelton. Liam is the best in his expertise and so he is not short of clients begging for his services but the chance to see the Southern Alps and Norma’s insistence made him decide to accept the contract to help Paddy Lane in his rehabilitation.
Liam is not a pushover so when Paddy reacted to him being gay, he didn’t mince words in telling Paddy that he can walk away right then, that he really doesn’t need the contract, not if he is being treated like trash, but Paddy needs him to help him get back some of the motor skills he lost in the attack. Liam laid out his rules and Paddy (got what he deserve) had no choice but to accept it if he wants to get well.
Jules has always known he was Bisexual but maybe deep down he convinced himself that he prefers women to men. Seeing what his father did to Zach, now more than ever, Jules hid this very important part of him deep deep down. But he never expected to meet someone like Liam, never expected to be so attracted to the tattooed man. Liam feels the same way, never expected to meet a sexy Shepherd who is kind and takes good care of his family and people, someone who loves without prejudice.
Acting to their attraction to each other was not easy for both, Jules being afraid of the consequences if his father finds out and Liam because he is only there for six weeks. But love is love, you can never choose who to fall in love with, the heart wants what it wants.
A very beautiful love story, so sweet and so heartbreaking, but love always comes with sacrifices, right? Love is never easy but if you do find the right person for you, you will do all you can to have that person in your life.
Thank you once again Ms. Jay Hogan for an amazing story, a great addition to the series and I am excited as to whose love story comes next.
