Lucien has been waiting for Jameson, but he’s also had a ton of younger siblings to care for, and he’s always been an outsider in his own pack with a secret to hide. When Jameson comes to help him when his cabin burns down, he’s terrified of being too much trouble, but Jameson sets out to convince him that he’s just right for Jameson, and for a pack that’s changing with the times, even if it makes some of the pack angry enough to kill. Can they find time to create a new family with all of the adversity they face?
Healing Winter is an mpreg wolf shifter romance with a happy ending.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the third book in a series and contains spoilers for the previous books. It’s also related to another series, Dragon Sanctuary, and contains some spoilers for that series also.
Jameson, who is co-alpha with his brother Keegan, of his wolf-shifter pack, has had his hands full rebuilding their pack after their old Alpha’s poor leadership. Keegan has also found his mate, John, and they’ve had two kids in the last couple of years which has taken Keegan’s focus. He’s met Lucien, a young wolf shifter caring for his 7 very young siblings in a remote cabin. Lucien is considered an outsider for various reasons, but he’s still p0ack and Jameson knows that Lucien is meant for him.
When another wolf tries to snatch one of Lucien’s young sisters and is hurt holding off the would be kidnapper, Jameson takes him and his siblings back to his home. He has been wanting the opportunity to woo Lucien and it appears this might be the time. Lucien is very skittish and has a lot of self-esteem issues but Jameson is determined 🙂 When someone burns down Lucien’s cabin and he’s once again hurt in the aftermath, Lucien is no longer willing to wait. Lucien is his.
There are other obstacles for them to overcome as well. There is a change on the mountain and the pack is adjusting to those as well. But Lucien throws himself helping Jameson and Keegan and John. He’s good with the elders who are also having difficulty being remote from the pack village. He’s good with the pack children. He is a good cook and likes to help John with meals and such. But mostly, he wants to be a good mate for Jameson. He’s not sure he’s worthy, but he’s trying to take it in stride. And he’s going to be adding to their family which is already large 🙂 These are good things for the pack. if only they could root out the bad apples who are trying to cause strife and return to the ways of the old alpha. Keegan and Jameson are up to the task though 😀
I enjoyed this new story in this world. Lucien is adorable. He’s had a rough life up until Jameson comes for him, but he’s managed. He’s got all those young siblings to raise without much help. He knows he has a connection with Jameson but an outsider like him cannot be a fit mate for an alpha – or so he believes. Jameson has to convince Lucien that he IS worth, despite how he’s been treated by the rest of the pack up until now. The pups are adorable too. Jameson is a very protective mate and erstwhile father to all of Lucien’s siblings too. I liked getting to spend more time with John, Keegan’s mate, in this one too. He’s another “outsider” who ends up an alpha’s mate with no clue what’s happening, so he and Lucien bond pretty easily. There are visits from/to Loyal and Niall up the mountain as well which is a nice revisit to the characters from the first book in this series. For fans of this world, this is an enjoyable new addition to the pack stories. Recommended.
