Scarred. Broken. Healed by his vampire mate.
Born and raised in a vampire coven, Rhyme knows vampires are all sadistic, manipulative monsters who’ll never see mortals like him as anything more than blood-slaves. So when he finds himself ‘rescued’ by another coven, he knows it’s a lie. These new vampires are not his saviors.
The moment Iskander sets eyes on the scarred mortal in the infirmary bed, he knows that Rhyme is his. His to protect. His to cherish. His mate. But before he can even think about claiming Rhyme, he’s going to have to fight his way past Rhyme’s scars. And some of those run deep.
Rhyme doesn’t understand Iskander, this vampire who promises to guard him, who holds him through his nightmares and never asks for a thing in return. Not even for Rhyme’s blood. It would be so easy, to let himself believe. But still, Rhyme’s waiting for that rush of violence and fangs that will prove him right.
Except it doesn’t come and, slowly, Iskander’s arms begin to feel like home, like the safety he never knew. Like love.
But can Rhyme really let himself fall for a vampire?

REVIEW:
My usual disclaimer – This is the second book in the Rubyville Vampires series and is not a standalone. You must read the first book as storylines from book one carryover to this book. Although we do have a new set of main characters in Rhyme and Iskander. Please make note – please make sure you read the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book… Silvana brings it with this story.
This one brings out some very serious topics and packs a punch from the very first page. The world building continues to be top notch. But the character development in this book is beyond stellar. Silvana outdid herself with character development in this story. Rhyme is this battered and bruised human that was rescued by the Rubyville Vampires at the end of the last book. He is this heart wrenchingly tortured soul, who may or may not make it after his rescue. Iskander was Rhyme’s rescuer and is so drawn to the shattered human – he fights to keep him safe, while maintaining his aloof vampire self.
The prose in this one brought me to tears and more anger than I have felt reading a book in awhile. This is a gut-wrenching angst filled story. It’s not to often when I want to become part of a story to kick some serious ass… But yet this is only a fictional environment, but that reaction tells you just how great this book is. It’s the mark of a great writer, when they can consume you and pull unreasonable emotional responses from the reader.
Where was he?
Who was that vampire next to his bed? And what were they going to do to him?
“Don’t be afraid.” The vampire reached toward him, and Rhyme flinched away, terrified that the man was about to grab him, to touch him, to do whatever he wanted to him. The man retracted his hand, frowning. “It’s all right,” he said. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
I can’t express in words how much I loved this story. There are some seriously rough scenes in this story and you need to head the trigger warnings for this one. I don’t want to leave out any doubt that there are sexy times in this story, but I can’t say to much as that will give some of the plot away.
If you want to know what happens with Rhyme, Iskander and the rest of the Rubyville Vampires – you need to RUN to you favorite eBook ordering site and snatch this one up. You won’t regret it. Can’t wait to get my hands on book three.
