BLURB:
Professional hockey player Marcus Markelton—Mark Mark to his fans—has dreamed of playing in the NHL since childhood, and has been raising his nephew with his parents’ help for the past few years. He’s at the top of his game and getting noticed when a clash with an aggressive defender results in a head injury and an encounter with Logan.
Logan Castro, EMT and huge hockey fan, is thrilled to meet one of his favorite players, but would rather have had it happen under better circumstances. After assisting Mark, he accepts a pair of tickets to a game as a thank-you for giving Mark a ride home from the hospital. He doesn’t realize his simple act of kindness could change everything.
Logan not only gets to know Mark, but also his nephew, Timmy. Both of them work their way into his heart. As the two men grow closer and Logan’s need for a family of his own seems so close, he can almost touch it, Mark’s playing turns red-hot. Both men know that Mark’s dreams could put more distance between them than their new relationship can take, but risking their hearts could be the goal they score together.
REVIEW:
Marcus Markleton (Mark) is a professional hockey player and a Papa to his deceased brother’s eight-year-old son, Timmy. During a match he is in an altercation and ends up hitting his head on the boards during a match. At the time he seems fine but driving home he feels dramatically worse and just about manages to pull over to the side of the road and to call 911 before losing consciousness. Since having Timmy to look after Marcus’s life has been less rock and roll and more doting Dad. He doesn’t mind that at all but it doesn’t leave much time for dating.
Logan Castro is one of the paramedics that responds to Mark’s call and can’t believe the person he is helping is a local hockey hero, especially as he is a really big hockey fan. After helping Mark out at the hospital and with getting home when he is released, the two of them start getting closer. But can a potential relationship between them survive the challenges of their work and families.
Add in a homophobic parent (not the hell and brimstone type, more snide than that), an allergic reaction and somebody choking and there is a lot to keep Logan & Mark on their toes.
This is another short book at only 91 pages and at the start I was worried it was feeling like a short story unlike book 1 (Book 1 Review). Then it changed and the second half felt like their relationship was less rushed. As with the first book the whole book felt much longer than 91 pages but in a really good way. It was filled with things happening in their lives which made the bit of their journey together we see feel less rushed and more complete.
This book is entirely independent of the first one in the series, with only one cross over character (who is a small character) as far as I could see so you don’t have to have read the first book before reading this one.
