He’s my teacher, I’m his student.
He’s my boss…I’m his daughter’s nanny.
Gordon is mature and experienced, and I have a thing for silver foxes. But I can’t let him know how I feel. Or show him in any way.
Problem is, I’m falling in love.
How could I not when Gordon looks at me like I’m his biggest fantasy? Or his worst nightmare. But which one is it? And does he feel the same way?
Beau Pair is the first book in Rhys Everly’s steamy, low-angst, teacher-student romance series, A Proper Education. It contains an age-gap pairing, sizzling romance, and high levels of cuteness.
REVIEW:
This book opens immediately with the initial meeting between the two main characters, Gordon and Beau, as Beau interviews for a position as Gordon’s nanny. We then learn that their relationship is complicated by the fact that Gordon is also Beau’s professor. This lays the groundwork for much of the internal conflict Gordon faces about whether to act on his attraction to Beau, who is both his employee and student.
The sex scenes between the two main characters, once they do get together, are reasonably steamy but also fairly vanilla and similar to each other. While I appreciated the eventual family bond that forms between all of the characters, the overarching plot felt a little light without much momentum to truly draw me in. The focus seemed to be placed more heavily on the sex scenes compared to the development of the story and characters.
Narrator John York’s voice was crisp and clear. However, many of the characters were overly-loud Southerners, which became rather grating over time. Dolly’s character in particular felt flat and one-dimensional. While her meddling did help move Gordon and Beau’s relationship along, she came across as loud and irritating.
Luckily, having listened to the next book in this series, this seems to just be a choice for most of the characters in this story, rather than an issue with the narrator’s style overall. Beau Pair also introduces Tru, one of the MCs in book 2.
In summary, while I found this to be an enjoyable light no-angst read, the plot and character development were not deep enough for me to want to re-read this book again soon.
