Protecting him is my job. Finding out he’s my fated mate wasn’t part of the assignment.
Lake Forrester III entered my life like a wrecking ball. Drake Security, my firm with my brothers, was hired to protect him from a stalker ex, but what Lake doesn’t know is that he’s not dealing with your average unhinged human. The unhinged wolf shifter he unknowingly dated will stop at nothing to get Lake in his clutches.
Just another day in the life of a dragon body guard.
The one thing I never expected was for Lake to be my fated mate. To say my protective instincts are on overdrive is an understatement. I’ll move mountains to keep him safe and delight in tearing the wolf apart with my bare hands if he gets too close to my mate. If it unleashes all out war with the wolf packs, so be it. I never claimed to be the level headed one.
In the meantime, my only focus is Lake and his safety. If anyone hurts him, it’ll be the last thing they do. My dragon will make sure of it.
Hot Head is book one in the exciting new series, Drake Security. It features a dragon bodyguard with anger issues, a fabulous human with more money than friends, an ex on the loose, and fated mate goodness. Dive into Hot Head and feel the burn.

REVIEW:
So this kickoff to a new paranormal romance series from Mika Nix gives us a sassy human with a stalker and a grumpy ancient dragon shifter/bodyguard pairing.
Lake is a flamboyant and confident human and he has no idea that his stalkery ex is not what he seems. When things start to get out of hand, Lake’s father hires a bodyguard. Enter our grumpy hulking dragon shifter, Nico Drake of Drake Security. Nico is surprised by Lake 🙂 But he is determined to do his job although he can’t figure out why he is so protective of Lake. He’s never had this issue with any previous protectee. The more time he spends with Lake though, the harder it is to hold back his dragon when he realizes that the stalker ex is not human but is a wolf shifter.
When Lake breaks protocol and is attacked by Brody the ex, Nico rescues him and chases off the perp at a public event. This leads to a misinterpretation of their relationship. In order to set the record straight, Lake has to share the fact that he now has a bodyguard. He is staying at Nico’s place now and well one thing leads to another and neither of them are able to ignore the burning hot chemistry any more. The closer they get and the more time they spend together, Nico realizes that he isn’t just lusting after Lake. Lake is his fated mate. The first one in his family. The first one that he has ever seen. It’s not just a myth.
When Brody gets too close, well the cat is out of the bag. Lake takes it really surprisingly well. He knew there was something different about Nico. He has felt the pull too. He knows Nico will always protect him but they have to get this Brody situation taken care of so they can move on with their lives.
There are some shifter politics to get around, but Lake and Nico are ready to neutralize the threat. Too bad the shifter has other plans.
This was a fun story! Lake is hilarious with his pop culture references to a 2500 year old dragon who couldn’t care less about it. Nico’s brothers are worried about letting a human into their world, but it’s clear that Lake really is his fated mate and at the end of the day, they accept Lake as part of their family. I cannot wait to see what happens with these dragon brothers 🙂 This series from Mika Nix (K.M. Neuhold and Mia Monroe) I think is going to be a fun ride. There is plenty of danger and mystery to keep things interesting. The brothers appear to be quite different and I am anxiously awaiting the other four finding their mates too!
Michael Ferraiuolo is a perfect narrator for Dragons!! After all he has lots of experience 😉 I loved his choices for the Drake brothers and also Lakes sassy personality. The DRAGON SONG was my favorite 😀 Nico is appropriately possessive and broody. The brothers personalities were distinct and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Highly recommended.
