Blood. Torture. Murder. They’ve been my only companions for centuries. I haven’t needed or wanted anything else.
Until I see Matty smile. Then something in me, something that’s been dormant for centuries, begins to reawaken.
Matty doesn’t belong in my world. He’s loving, innocent, and full of joy. The darkness of my life would corrupt him in a heartbeat, but when he’s dragged into it against his will, nothing can stop me delivering my personal brand of justice.
Matty keeps fighting for things I can’t give him, for things I’m no longer capable of. I can’t come between him and his family. I can’t give him what he needs.
But I also can’t stay away from him.
Matty
I’m surrounded by couples in love.
Once, I thought that’d be me. That I’d be swept off my feet and experience the kind of epic love you only see in movies.
Now, I know better.
A horrific night taught me to look for other things in a partner. Someone who’s predictable. Safe. Stable.
Sebastian is anything but.
Everyone tells me to stay away from him, but I don’t understand their concerns. How can he be a villain when all he’s shown me is kindness?
He makes me want things I thought I’d given up on. Things I’m too scared to admit I still want.
The trouble is, I can’t figure out what Sebastian wants. He tells me he can’t say no to me, but he won’t open up. He says to stay away from him, but he keeps coming around.
One thing is for sure, Sebastian is who I want in my future.
But how can I keep fighting for us if I’m the only one doing it?
Justice is a MM PNR romance about a grumpy vampire assassin and the sunshine human he can’t stay away from. The second in the Damned Connections series, each book will follow a different couple as they find their HEA. Although better read in order, these books can stand alone.
REVIEW:
Matty is the sweetest man and he’s beloved by his brother and the family that his brother has found. He’s pure sunshine and there are people who will do anything to make sure he never stops shining.
Sebastian is one of those people. Against his will, he’s become consumed by Matty’s smile and the need to make sure Matty never loses it.
I have read every book in this series and the one it spun off of and I think this might be my favorite. I didn’t expect to get so emotionally involved in Matty and Sebastian’s relationship. But I mean what’s not to love about the cutest little cinnamon roll and the grumpy vampire who is totally taken with him?
Matty and his brother Leo have a wonderful connection and it really is adorable how Leo’s mate Ferry and his circle of friends do their best to take care of Matty but they really have no idea of the darkness that lurks in his soul. It’s festering there until Sebastian comes along.
Sebastian has suffered for centuries, blaming himself for a horrific past. Watching him open up to Matty and slowly learn how to deal with a life that doesn’t always have to be violence and pain brought me pain and pleasure equally.
As always it was good to see the guys from the Reckless Damned series. They brought all the humor and snark that I loved about them to this book and I am grateful to the author for that. I love my action to be sprinkled liberally with humor and this book continues with that tradition.
Lark Taylor writes interesting, relatable characters that are easy to love and always leave you wanting more. I could have read 10 more chapters about Sebastian and Matty but that’s because I’m greedy, not because the story was lacking anything. It was perfect and now I’m not sure who’s story I’d like to see more: Danny the werewolf with a surprisingly complicated past or Toby, the vampire who’s relationship with a mage is leaving all his friends wondering.
You can read this without reading the other books that came before, but why would you deny yourself all those wonderful stories? There’s fantastic world building, characters that will keep you coming back for more, and storylines that will pull you out of your own world for a little while.
Now, what other stories can I find by Lark Taylor?
