BLURB:
Noah: Losing our sound engineer right before the start of my band’s first tour seems like a disaster. But when Lane shows up instead, it turns out to be a stroke of good luck. I can’t deny my attraction to his musical abilities and his mysterious smile. But this tour is a lifetime dream-come-true, and I can’t afford to be distracted by the handsome newcomer… until a hot night during a snowstorm changes all of that.
Lane: Touring with a band I barely know wasn’t how I expected to spend the next two weeks, but when a last-minute opportunity presents itself, I can’t help but jump on the chance. There’s something else I want to jump on, too… or rather, someone else. The band’s hot lead singer isn’t interested in me, though, or at least I thought he wasn’t. But after a scorching night in a cheap motel, I have good reason to think otherwise. Will we be able to focus on the tour, or will our mutual attraction overpower everything we’ve been working towards?
REVIEW:
Lane isn’t one to rush into things, ideally wanting more time before agreeing to be a last-minute fill-in sound engineer. But the band was good, the lead singer was mesmerizing, and it had been a while since he had such a positive vibe for a group.
Follow My Lead is the first book in a Rockstar Romance series, and from what I’ve read, each couple gets their story told to completion. Whether future tales involve the current band or others isn’t clear. There aren’t any other books out by this author on Amazon. Therefore, this could well be a first for a newbie. If this is the case, I commend the author for delivering a sweet, competent creation.
The story is told in the first person from the viewpoints of Lane and Noah. Worldbuilding revolves around the tour and the feelings between the main protagonists. Throughout the tale, both men have similar emotions. For a variety of reasons, they experience nerves, want, lust, and shyness. In many ways, they have the same thoughts at the same time and are generally in agreement. The only things that separate Noah and Lane are their jobs. They are delightful men with a splendid sense of responsibility. Their forced proximity encourages the men to take a chance instead of admiring from a close distance.
Everything in this story is perfectly pleasant, with no angst and low drama. It is a simple tale of two men coming together with the backdrop of a music tour. Reading was akin to going for a lovely afternoon walk in the woods. Everything was delightful, with some sweet encounters, but nothing made my heart thud or gave me that hankering need to turn the page. Yet, with fame on the horizon, several possible scenarios could have added electricity to the proceedings and widened the audience appeal.
If you are a reader who enjoys an amicable tale of two men finding their way to one another, accompanied by the classic blunt female best friend, and understanding bandmates, this is for you.
