REVIEW:
Just when things seem to be going smoothly after two previous murders over the past two months in the village of Dufftown, George’s rescue pug comes upon a body in the middle of the road. Thankfully George does not recognize the victim, but he calls the police right away. Despite not having any knowledge of what happened to the victim, somehow George’s calm month of August goes poof!
After discovering that the deceased was a recent bride in town for her wedding, the distraught widow seems to focus on George as he discovered the body. She’s convinced that he died the deed, despite all evidence to the contrary, not to mention exactly zero motive. But it’s not just the widow. The deceased cousin also continues to pop up unannounced and uninvited at George’s cottage and Murphy’s place of business.
It’s all quite bizarre. The DCIs and the local constables are none too keen on George and Murphy getting involved. There solicitor is also unhappy when they continue to talk to people including the police without him present. But Murphy and George’s family and friends can’t help trying to discover what is going on with the weird behavior of the wedding party.
Once again, Bumble, George’s rescue pug is a prominent character in this book. He keeps George grounded and he also helps in ways unexpected.
This is an adorable series! It’s funny and sweet with little to no heat – but that is perfect for this delightful cozy setting with these two mature characters who find happiness together. They are moving in together in this one and I hope we get to see more of their life together – although hopefully people won’t keep dying in Dufftown! The cast of supporting characters continue through this one as well and continue to fulfill their mission to help and support Murphy and George 🙂 Really just a lovely series that is a pleasant palate cleanser if you need one from darker reads. Highly recommended.
