BLURB:
One feels he’s not worthy of love. The other fears he doesn’t know how. But the sizzling chemistry between them has both tempted to explore the unknown.
Cyrus
I was intrigued by Crow at first glance. Who wouldn’t be? He’s a mountain of a man, who was raised in a cult and now lives secluded in the wilderness. But the draw I feel to him goes beyond mild interest. When his intense gaze falls my way, it feels like he can see into my soul, to my deepest yearnings and desires.
I took a bold chance venturing to his mountain uninvited. But I can’t help myself. Despite Crow’s dangerous facade, I feel at home when I’m near him. I’ve never felt wanted or needed…until the mountain man took me in his arms.
Crow
The mountain is my home, the only place that truly suits me. I reveled in my solitude…until Cyrus showed up looking as lonely as I felt. The warmth in his gaze made me welcome someone into my home and my heart when I never have before.
The way he smells. The way he feels. I come apart with his every touch. The past haunts us both. Yet when we’re together, the weight of it is manageable. Cyrus is mine, and I don’t ever want to let him go. Still, I fear that eventually he’ll want to leave the mountain, and for the first time in my life, I don’t want to be alone.
On the Mountain deals with depictions of mental illness, past substance abuse, an MC who was raised in a cult, childhood abuse/neglect and trauma. For a full list of warnings, please use the look-inside feature to read the content warning at the beginning of the book.
REVIEW:
Let me start of saying I have been reading this author’s work for a long time. I don’t think there are many books out there, written by Miss Riley Hart, that I haven’t read. So seeing a new one come up, I was of course excited.
I also read that it would be a bit different and when I read the warnings I was prepaired for it to be exactly that.
Despite that, I was sucked into the book from the beginning, fascinated by both the lives of Crow and Cyrus.
What happened, where did they come from, what made them tick, so to speak.
There is no questioning the storytelling because I don’t expect less from this author and the same goes for this story. From the moment you start to read you get a look inside either one of the men, their lives and how they “work”.
I loved the silent connection from the first moment they met and how thing progressed from there. It makes me a bit hesitant to go into details as there is no denying it is a complex story, with very complex men.
Where I was enthralled by both men and their lives I can also understand it would be too much and come too close for some. There are serious issues lying below the surface.
For me it worked. I was fascinated by the progress of both men, what they got from each other, how they managed to find a way that worked, for not one but both of them, and in a way for beating the odds, so to speak.
There’s a kink they engage in that’s not my cup of tea, it is not really something that works for me, this is personal and will definitely work perfectly for the readers who like those aspects in a relationship. Thankfully it didn’t put me off from the book, which I am grateful for, but I would happily have gone without those short situations/actions.
The epilogue(s) deserves a special mention; I do love to read a look into the future of the main characters and Riley Hart delivered, big time!
If you are looking for a great intense, slightly different read by a great skilled author with emotions rolling all over the place in a beautiful mountain setting, this is definitely the book for you.
