BLURB:
San Francisco SWAT Lieutenant Connor Morgan and Crossroads Gin drummer Forest Ackerman make an odd couple. Connor, an Irish-born cop from a tight-knit family, never imagined he’d find his happily-ever-after with a raised-on-the-streets musician, but Forest had the gentlest soul he’d ever met. After a long, hard road of heartbreak, murder, and trouble, they fell hard in love and married.
Then Fate intervenes and throws their lives into a chaos neither one of them is prepared for.
During a brutal SWAT raid, Connor stumbles on Tate, an abused, vulnerable little boy caught in a shoot-out with his father’s drug-running gang. As heavy fire riddles the walls, an injured Connor rescues Tate from the fray… only to be struck numb when a caseworker pries a sobbing Tate from his arms.
Scarred from his own childhood experiences, Forest doubts he can be a good enough father, but Connor assures him they can give Tate what he needs and more. Soon they are on an insane ride where trust and affection are hard-earned, especially when coming from a little boy raised in society’s filthiest gutters. Facing down every challenge thrown their way, they battle to give Tate what Connor treasures and Forest never had—a family to call his own.
REVIEW:
If Rhys Ford was trying to write the perfect send off for the Sinner’s series, they’ve absolutely nailed it!
Connor and Forest are looking toward their future. They aren’t sure what it holds exactly but everyone knows they were bound to be family men. And with the Morgans and their rock stars surrounding and supporting them, you know that they will have everything they need.
Tate is such a little treasure. This little boy was absolutely born to be a Morgan. He’s smart and funny and has just enough spit fire to get him through all of his traumas and take him to his happily ever after. I wish we were going to get to know him better, but I have no problems imaging the life he’s going to live with his fathers.
Of course we get to visit with the whole Morgan family and Crossroads Gin. These stories are at the top of my comfort read list and this was the perfect way to end the series. I love the glimpses of everyones daily lives. It’s like visiting old friends.
Rhys Ford excels at stories that make me laugh and cry at the same time. The anger and frustration that Connor and Forest and Tate go through is palpable as well, and I felt every one of those emotions. She is also the absolute best at creating the most relatable and easy to love characters.
It’s not the longest book, but it absolutely a complete story that gives the reader everything they need to feel satisfied with the ending.
And what an ending! There is very little I can say without giving anything away, but I will fight anyone who says that the last line isn’t absolutely perfect!
I’m going to miss these characters but the best thing about books are that I can go back and re-read them as often as I want when I need a series that will leave me happy! And I know that Rhys Ford has more amazing stories coming down the line and I will be the first one in line to read them.
