After powerful psychic Blue Billings fell in love with Levi Black, he believed their biggest challenges would arise from Blue’s ability to see and speak to the dead. So it’s rather alarming when he and Levi are confronted with a spate of new—and frightening—problems that have to do with the realm of the living.
A sadistic serial killer is stalking their beloved York, and Blue himself is in the killer’s crosshairs. Blue and Levi must race against time to catch the murderer as the deaths increase in ferocity. But when they’re forced from their home, and close acquaintances seemingly disappear like mist over the Minster’s spires, Blue finds that he is completely and terrifyingly on his own, and for the first time in his life, he’s without his powers.
This is the third book in the bestselling Black and Blue series. The books are meant to be read in order.

REVIEW:
*Swoon* Another wonderful Black and Blue novel, a long awaited one but well worth the wait. Again, is the perfect blend of romance with suspense and some horror. It’s gruesome at times but it’s offset by the truly special entity that is Blue and Levi. To borrow my own words, as a couple they are exceptional, bringing out the best in each other. The depth of their love is nearly palpable. It’s natural and comforting and convincing. The longer they’re together, the stronger their bond becomes.
“I always thought being with one person would get boring. I never realised that it’s the day-to-day intimacy that makes everything else so fucking good.” – Blue
Blue is enjoying a contented life with Levi, guiding his ghost tours, helping mild mannered ghosts, and spending time with friends including Tom, Will, Jem, and even the eccentric Lord Ingram. He loves having a home and even sharing it with Rosalind. But the peacefulness is shattered by a string of grisly, serial murders in York that frightens everyone. Then Blue is warned by a Crow that something wicked is coming.
Who would expect Tom to be the voice of reason, his experience and wisdom the only thing helping Blue as he loses his powers? Eventually, even Tom is flummoxed by Blue’s most recent psychic experiences. Blue has a frightening identity crisis without his usual abilities while dealing with the serial killer. He experiences deep fear and a sense of defenselessness at not being able to keep Levi safe even in their own home.
One thing I love about this series is Blue’s very quick wit. Even during times of despair, his humor is ubiquitous. It’s an effective way for Lily Morton to inject levity to dampen the horror somewhat. And let’s not forget the humor embodied in Tom.
The murder plot is well-conceived and well-written, both interesting and scary; you may not want to read this book right before bed! As always, it’s Blue and Levi, along with their friends, that make me keep coming back for more. I can’t wait for the audiobook; narrator Joel Leslie is magnificent in this series.
So very highly recommended.
