Playboy Miles Dunham is eager to celebrate his thirty-ninth birthday, hopefully with a happy ending. After his mother drops a huge bombshell that turns his life upside down, Miles is determined to make the most of his last birthday in his thirties.
Enter Fate—taking the form of a gorgeous young grad student wearing sexy leather pants. How could the guy’s gold-flecked hazel eyes make it so hard for Miles to see the line he shouldn’t cross?
Monroe Taylor is a spoiled little rich boy who likes his fun. An arrest for possession of a controlled substance doesn’t seem to be a big deal until he has to explain himself and face the music. One more night of freedom is in order before he’s punished for his crimes. The man he meets at the bar that night? He’s right out of Monroe’s schoolboy dreams!
When Fate walks into that bar, she brings along a friend—Destiny. Of course, Chaos isn’t far behind.

REVIEW:
What a wonderful and heartwarming tale of resilience and love through so many difficult and challenging obstacles.
Miles Durham is a playboy that is turning 39! And he is determined to celebrate it his way. So if he’s lucky his night will be filled with all kinds of fun to usher in his birthday. When a leather pants clad ginger enters he know he’s gotten his wish. A weekend of debauchery and fun are coming his way before he has to head off to his mother’s summons. Monroe Taylor is the epitome of spoiled poor little bored rich kid. He has had everything handed to him on a silver platter with a Black AMEX card to fund his extravagant play adventures. And he needs one more before he faces the consequences of his little “side business” with his friends. So a night with the sexy older man is a dream come true. A little teacher kink thrown in makes for on spicy night. Unfortunately his Uncle Rett’s call telling him to go tell his father what’s up and then quickly high tail it back New York, before the authorities figure out he’s left the state, throws a bucket of cold water on their plans. But can a honorable late thirties attorney and a twenty-something bad boy that plays his own way make a long distance thing work?
I was bit apprehensive of this instant connection. Yes they were extremely compatible chemistry wise but seemed on completely different planes other wise. Miles was a successful attorney and well situated in life. Monroe Taylor was a good student but a spoiled, rich, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, wild child that did as he pleased and devil may care what his father thought. And I get it, he was trying to get attention from his always busy and somewhat neglectful dad any way he could do acting out was the norm. But on paper these polar opposites didn’t compute. But what caught for me was how both men were so anxious and vulnerable about the other and a tentative relationship. The bottom line was both men were severely lacking in the skills to make a long term, long distance thing work. Their initial interaction was all smoke screens so how do you build on that. Plus Miles figured out fast enough who Taylor actually was and kept that key piece of information to himself. That bugged me a bit. They simply weren’t ready and didn’t fit at first. Thankfully Miles took the high road and made it work the second time but I wasn’t sure if Taylor would give him a second chance after that outburst. And I wouldn’t have blamed him. That is where the age difference really showed!
I found it sweet that Miles helped Taylor learn to “adult”. Basic and simple things like doing laundry should have been a no-brainer. But this young man was actually done a disservice by not teaching him basic skills to survive. A twenty five year old man should know basic skills like how to wash his own underwear!
I really loved Uncle Rett and would have loved to have his and The Judge’s story. Thankfully young Taylor had this strong male influence in his life. It was obvious that Rett loved his nephew and saw how much he needed him to watch out for him. And I loved that he didn’t sugar coat things and coddle him. He needed someone that loved him enough to make sure he didn’t screw up too badly yet firm enough to call him on his actions.
I’ll admit that I’m the last person to understand “lawyer talk/legalese” so that part of the book flew right over my head. As did the taking their family business and going public. That was actually a really sweet move. I get being taken advantage of by someone you trust and is in business with you. That happened to me personally very recently and I am still struggling with the betrayal by someone whom I thought was my friend, in addition to being a business colleague, and trusted. The hurt there, and the scars it leaves, will be with me probably forever. And I too am mad that sometimes it’s not best to bring in the authorities and it appears they have gotten away with something. One can only hope that karma does her justice…that and a good divorce attorney for Marcy to clean out some of those ill-gotten funds Stan stole from Willy.
I somehow missed this series the first time around but discovered it when the third in the series released recently. I will state that there is no need to read the books in order as they share a specific theme but not characters.
