Gil is the star football player for our college team, and one of the most popular guys in school. As his roommate, I get to see the sweet geeky side he hides from everyone else. The other thing he’s kept hidden? He’s still a virgin.
Now he has a giant list of guys to do hanging on our wall with the goal of losing his V-card before his birthday. On Christmas.
12 guys. 12 dates. 12 days.
Helping my roommate with is torture, and it’s getting more difficult to keep my hands to myself. But he would never want a geeky science guy when he could have any guy on campus.
Is 12 days enough time to convince Gil to give me a chance? Is it enough time to convince myself?
12 Gays of Christmas is a 45,000+ word low angst gay romance featuring a virgin MC, roommates to lovers, dates gone wrong, a frenemy neighbor, and Christmas cheer with found family.
REVIEW:
Gil is a star football player who is on a mission. He is going to be 23 on Christmas and he is determined to lose his virginity by then. But he has no idea how to go about accomplishing this. So he comes up with a “list” of the types of guys he wants to find/date to discover what he really likes. Everyone (including his roommate of two years) assumes that he is a bit of a himbo, but in fact, he’s never slept with anyone.
Colin, Gil’s roommate is pretty disgusted with this plan of Gil’s and Gil hasn’t confessed to him why he’s on this mission. When he finally comes clean, Colin agrees to help him. It’s part of the roommate code, isn’t it? Well maybe 😉 So Colin helps Gil try to find dates of these types of guys he needs to check out. He is not thrilled with this idea and it’s clear that he’s not happy with the guys and the dates.
Turns out these two are really more interested in each other, but they can’t cross that line. I mean they are roommates and friends. They could really screw that up if they added anything else into the mix. But as the countdown to Christmas moves forward, it’s time for them to open their eyes and see what is right there for the taking if they can just be honest and vulnerable.
This is a cute holiday story of roommates to lovers. They take a rather circuitous route to get there and there is the additional trope over one MC punching his v-card by his 23rd birthday – which also happens to be Christmas. And there is also a sort jock/nerd vibe going on here as well. So yeah, a lot in this story. But there are funny moments – some terrible dates – and two MCs who are oblivious to what’s been in front of them all along 😀 Their mutual pining and worrying about potentially screwing up their roommate/friendship relationship was believable even if they were clueless – not just about each other but about themselves for a long time. I did feel like the dates ran out of a little steam towards the middle, but I enjoyed how these two finally got of their own way – with the help of family and friends and their frenemy neighbor Remi 😉 (I hope Remi is going to get a story someday.) If you’re in the mood for an entertaining low-angst holiday story about some young guys trying to figure things out, I think you’l enjoy this one. Recommended.
