The only thing bigger than Riggs’ attitude is his tool… And only one of those problems can be solved with more lube….
There’s no tragic backstory or closet stuffed full of skeletons from relationships’ past. I’ve just never been very good at the “very special episode” sh*t. If you’re looking for a shoulder to cry on, may I suggest a therapist?
Casual fun with my emotionally stunted, overgrown frat boy roommate slash co-worker should be perfect, right? Shep seems to be just as allergic to commitment as I am to emotions, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need our stroker rods serviced, if you catch my drift.
Now if he’ll just stop looking at me with those dopey puppy dog eyes while I’m elbow deep in a diesel engine, and making my stomach flip with that smile of his, that would be great…
REVIEW:
Note: This is the fifth and final book in this series and as such includes spoilers for previous books.
Riggs and Shep are coworkers and mechanics at Big Bull Mechanics. Riggs is a prickly twink diesel mechanic who is newer to the crew. He’s not interested in relationships. Not even really much into friendships. He and Shep taunt and tease each other at work – particularly since Shep is a bit of Himbo and he keeps having hookups vandalize his house and car. Shep isn’t into relationships either but the crew teases that he’s cursed based on the results of his hookups.
Riggs like his job and his place. Then his landlord tells him he’s going to sell the house that Riggs is renting and so he has to move. Shep offers his spare room and Riggs accepts. Shep and his twin Axel help Riggs and his pet crow Val move into Shep’s house. Shep and Riggs begin cohabitating. And Riggs begins sabotaging Shep’s potential hookups. After dry spells for both of them and a drunken night out, they end up hooking up. And then it kind of keeps happening 😉 But Riggs doesn’t to feelings or love or relationships.
The longer they hang out though as roommates with benefits, Riggs gets more confused. He’s never had feelings like this before. But he’s not sure what that means. Journey, the partner of another mechanic, Red, helps him figure out maybe that he’s aromantic. Riggs thinks maybe he’s just broken. But he’s not.
Shep and Riggs take a while to figure out what they are to each other. It’s kind of a one step forward one step back kind of thing. They clearly don’t want to let go of each other and go back to their himbo ways. Despite their reluctance, they keep coming back to each other and keep trying to understand what is happening – even though they are both a bit confused. Their friends are supportive and nosy as usual. Then there is Shep’s twin brother who is also a bit of a himbo and he is maybe not so sure that Shep and Riggs are a real thing:) But they are 😀
I really enjoyed this last book of this series. Riggs has been a prickly little dude from the moment he walked into Big Bull. Twinks are Shep’s thing but Riggs is not interested in dating. He’s into getting off. Shep’s fine with that. Until he isn’t. These two are hilarious as they dance around each other. I loved how Riggs follows a bit of Sawyer’s playbook when he was trying to NOT date West 😉 I loved seeing all the guys from this series show up and add another layer of found family and support for these two. The two of them can’t quite believe that all their friends/colleagues are paired up and they are convinced that’s not for them. Until they figure out it is. And that epilogue? PERFECTION!
Liam DiCosimo and Tim Paige are so perfect for this series an I’m sorry this is the last book in this one. They perform the heck out of these stories. I look forward to every dual narration these guys do – and I hope that they will be tapped for the next series that is hinted at in this one. They are so great at making these guys sound so hilarious but also serious and romantic when called for. These two have a long dance to love and I enjoyed each moment of this story. Truly they are favorite narrators and I always know they will elevate whatever material they are given. This marriage of narrators and author are so successful for a reason. Perfect fit. Recommended.
