REVIEW:

Book two of the new series from Ms. Jocelynn Drake and Ms. AJ Sherwood. The first book, Ruins, was about Dimitri of the Ice Dragons of Brazil and Samuel Hunter who belongs to a Mage clan but believes that his core is broken, thus the trip to Brazil. He was on the hunt for the known Healer clan, the Souza.

In Book two, Rise, we will continue the search for the Souza Mage Clan so that Sam’s core can be healed and he and Dimitri can finally bond.

The book starts with Vasily having a dream. He has been having the same dream with the same man in it. In the dream the man is trying to give him directions towards him, to where he is so that Vasily can come get him. This usually leaves Vasily frustrated when he wakes up because he doesn’t understand why he keeps having these dreams. At the same time Luka dreams the same thing but he usually doesn’t remember the dream when he wakes up. Lately as Vasily recalls more of the dream, the man gives him clues as to where he is and how to get there. When they told their King about it, they were told to prepare for an expedition to this place that they are being led to. And so they went.

What they found astonishes them because not only did they find the man in both his and Luka’s dreams, but around four hundred more souls are there, all asleep, deep sleep. Amaru, the man in their dreams, somehow woke up and told them who they were. They were the “presumed lost and dead” Souza Mage Clan and the Lightning Dragon Clan. They were put to sleep to await the return of their clan mates who were supposed to fight an enemy. Their clan mates were supposed to wake them up, but alas five hundred years later, they were still asleep. But as the potions, spells and system used kept restarting/rebooting due to the constant storms in the area, Evora, the head Mage of the Valerii Clan, and Amaru agreed that they need to study the situation more and that maybe they would need reinforcements in order to wake and bring all these people up to the surface.

Both Luka and Vasily are attracted to Amaru, but only one of them could be his mate, right? There has never been a poly relationship recorded that of two dragons and a mage. It’s always been one dragon for one mage. Could it be Vasily for Amaru? Or Luka? Luka is conflicted and when he sees how Vasily and Amaru are when they are together, he concluded that it is Vasily and Amaru who are mates, therefore he needs to stay far away from them, better yet, accept Gunther and Nikki’s suggestion to live with them in Germany, with the Burkhard Clan.

Amaru, because of his preoccupation as to how to wake his clan up, didn’t clearly see what was bothering Luka, he knows that his two dragons are his mates. Vasily immediately knew that Luka and Amaru are his mates because his dragon confirmed it. But he can see that Luka is not convinced that this is so. Luka’s dragon has been strangely quiet all this time. Vasily tried to talk to Luka and get him to accept this fact, but Luka refuses to. When King Rodrigo finally talk to Luka that he can see that Luka, Vasily and Amaru are mates, and maybe Luka is just suppressing his dragon from confirming this because he is afraid. King Rodrigo’s encouragement and love for Luka pushed Luka to let go of his fear and allowed his dragon to confirm. When he got the confirmation, he can’t hold back his happiness and thank King Rodrigo.

Though they have to wake the Souza Clan before these three can have their sexy times, it is definitely something they are really looking forward to.

Love this book, love these dragons and I especially love Amaru who is confident, sexy, smart and all around well-suited for Luka and Vasily. These dragons are going to have their hands full with Amaru (smirked)! And finally, Sam will get his core fix (or so he thought) but a big twist awaits him.
