Adam Spencer – “The Rockstar”
Here’s what I know — some people aren’t meant to find love.
And as much as I want to be someone’s everything, that’s not meant for me.
After a painful breakup, I channeled all my hurt into a song that has skyrocketed my band, Fallen Angel, to the top of the charts.
Now I need protection from the one person who was supposed to love me no matter what—my mother.
Whether I want him or not, I now have a sexy, silver-tongued southern charmer as my 24/7 bodyguard.
I’ve tried not to fall for him, because I don’t do relationships. They hurt too much.
But Michael has me thinking I could take one more chance to find love.
Or was I meant to be alone like I’d thought all along?
Michael Coleman – “Phantom”
I’ve always been a protector. During my career as a Navy SEAL, my duty was to find undisclosed information and protect my team.
Now I need to protect the sexy rockstar I love flirting with every time he walks in the door to our EHM office.
Adam Spencer lights me up like no one ever has. And that’s saying something.
I’ll do whatever it takes to protect him, even from himself.
Have I finally found the love I’ve been hoping for with my rockstar?
The Rockstar is a flirty, friends-to-lovers, bodyguard and rockstar MM Romance that takes place in the Package Deal Series World. It can be read as a stand-alone book.
Trigger Warning: There is off the page reference to physical abuse to a minor.
REVIEW:
If you enjoyed The Package Deal series, then I think you will enjoy this kick-off (see what I did there 😉 ) to this new spin-off series involved the security team headed by Cooper’s brother Jesse. Cooper’s ex, Adam, features in this story and a number of the Portland Pirates and their spouses/boyfriends/children show up in supporting roles also. If you haven’t read Ineligible Receiver and Roughing the Kicker in that series, I would recommend it to set the context.
Adam had his heart broken by Cooper but he is mostly over it. The hit song he wrote about their breakup though keeps the questions coming about his inspiration. The band is not on the verge of making it big and someone is trying to blackmail Adam. Aidan, the band’s agent and lawyer is trying to make sure that things go smoothly and so he assigns Jesse’s team and specifically, Michael Coleman, aka “Phantom” from Jesse’s SEAL team to be Adam’s bodyguard until they solve this problem. Adam isn’t exactly thrilled with having someone in his space, but he likes Michael and they have a fun and flirty relationship.
Michael isn’t immune to Adam’s charms, but as he gets to know him more, he really likes what he sees and what he learns. Turns out that Adam had a pretty rough life as a kid. The blackmailer knows this. His best friend and bandmate Cole’s family is Adam’s family too. Cole and his secret boyfriend Patrick (also a Portland Pirate) have supported Adam throughout their lives. Cole and Patrick have their own issues since Patrick hasn’t come out and their relationship is on DL. Adam is a bit annoyed about all the stuff going on around him but he and Michael are having fun even if the reason for Michael being there isn’t funny.
Michael takes his job seriously, so it’s a little off brand for him to get involved with a client. But his heart is already involved so . . . He’s demiromantic and he needs to be clear with Adam what that means for him (note, this is HIM not all demiromantics). Adam is so gun shy. He’s never had anyone stay for him. He’s not sure he can survive another heartbreak. Michael vows that he’d never do that. In fact, Michael makes it his mission to get Adam to a good place – taking care of his security as well as his family issues. And boy does he!
Adam has a lot on him as they get ready to tour. The security situation escalates. There are multiple requests now. Adam’s family situation is upsetting. Michael is determined to give Adam the security he needs. Even though he doesn’t share everything he’s doing on Adam’s behalf, he comes clean at the right time. And what he does ends up resolving a lot of issues for them.
This was a nice start to this new series. There are some tough moments for Adam. Michael is a rock for him. His heart is always in the right place. Adam struggles with trusting him but Michael wins him over. They just work and Adam is finally ready to let someone own his heart. I liked all the cameos from the players and spouses and friends from the previous series. There are a lot of very sweet and healing moments for Adam here that he definitely deserved. Michael is a truly worthy book boyfriend 🙂 There aren’t a lot of rockstar moments in this one – which I appreciated because frankly that can get tiring. I loved that this was a band on the verge of breaking big and they were just regular guys. And I can’t wait for the next story – Cole and Patrick better get their act together! Recommended.
