As we approach the holiday season – 5 weekends until Christmas my local radio station helpfully reminded me this morning – I’m seeing the connection between preparing for the holidays, and the need to think way ahead about releasing a book.
And yes, I have done all my Christmas shopping already, why do you ask? Lol.
My sale book this month, On Wings of Song, begins with the 1914 Christmas Truce with a very slow burn relationship. Jochen and Aiden won’t meet again until after the war, years later.
When I originally wrote this story I wanted it to be published on the centenary of the Christmas Truce, but in order to do that I had to start writing much earlier. Not only did I need to get the book written, but leave enough time for beta readers, edits and to set up promotions.
It’s a juggling act with every book especially as many promo tours need a publication date way in advance. Blogs book up quickly. A blogger myself, as I write this I’m already full for November, and booked up for the first couple of weeks in December.
Some authors are very organised and set up a pre-order before the book is finished. With my writing schedule, or lack thereof with the day job etc, that would be stress bunny central for me, so I wait until I have the finished book to upload first, and then hopefully I don’t need to touch it again.
And why put a Christmas book on sale in November? Although it’s summer here, it’s winter on the other side of the world, plenty of promotions to join with a winter theme, and it’s never too early to start reading Christmas books.

On Wings of Song
A chance meeting they never forgot.
Six years after meeting British soldier Aiden Foster during the Christmas Truce of 1914, Jochen Weber still finds himself thinking about Aiden, their shared conversation about literature, and Aiden’s beautiful singing voice. A visit to London gives Jochen the opportunity to search for Aiden, but he’s shocked at what he finds.
The uniform button Jochen gave him is the only thing Aiden has left of the past he’s lost. The war and its aftermath ripped everything away from him, including his family and his music. When Jochen reappears in his life, Aiden enjoys their growing friendship but knows he has nothing to offer. Not anymore.
Author’s note: This story was originally released by another publisher. This edition has some added content, and uses UK spelling to reflect its setting.
Meantime I’d love to see some of you in my readers group and/or signing up for my newsletter. Elizabeth Noble and I also have a Facebook group for our paranormal shared world, The Sleepless City.
