Kade has seven days left to live…unless I do something about it. I am one of the best assassins around, after all. But…I’m not sure I exactly care what happens to Kade. He’s rude, only cares about himself and his casino, and did I mention he doesn’t know a single thing about video games?
Okay, okay. Maybe that’s not enough of a reason to watch him dash headlong into danger while I kick back and enjoy the show.
It’s kind of fun though.
Now I know what you’re thinking…doesn’t that make me the selfish one? See, I don’t mind helping people—it’s kind of my thing. But the ones I help aren’t anything like Kade. They’re people who have nothing left who are willing to go to great lengths to save those they love, even at the cost of losing themselves. Still, maybe Kade can show me that beneath his icy exterior is a man worth saving. A man worth loving. And maybe even a man worth risking everything for.
Issue is…he only has seven days to do it.
Reckless Roulette is a part of the multi-author series The Elite. Each book can be listened to as a stand-alone and in any order. What links these books together is The Anonymous, a club beneath the gritty city where only the elite are welcome.
REVIEW:
Kade has inherited his horrible father’s casino. He’s made is very very successful. He has no friends and he keeps to himself and just basically works and sleeps. He has hookups, but no relationships. Then he is threatened by his father’s old protege and resident bad guy, Norn: Sign over the Casino to him by the end of a week or pay the ultimate consequences. He laughs it off at first, but he then his security is getting killed and he’s getting beat up. The only person he trusts is his financial advisor. He goes to him for help and he recommends someone to help him – Len.
Len is a surprising guy. He plays videogames, likes action movies and oh yeah, he’s a skilled assassin. He doesn’t like Kade much. Kade is pretty self-absorbed and is only interested in his business and his money. Len is more interested in doing the right thing. He refuses to help Kade, but Kade doesn’t have any other choices and he basically chased down Len to get him to help.
Slowly but surely, after observing Len and what he does, he begins to change. Maybe Len has it right. Maybe there is more than money. He starts to realize that maybe his father didn’t do him any favors and that he needs a new start. But Norn isn’t going to just take the win. He goes after Kade anyway. He wants to get to Len.
Michael Ferraiuolo and Alice Winters are a true dream team 🙂 Like Finn and Marcus, Leland and Jackson and Cassel and Jeremy, Kade and Len start out as sort of enemies. Kade is not used to anyone saying no to him. But Len is not just going to do what Kade wants – even if it does align with his own goals. There are lots of surprises here that I enjoyed. Kane and Len get closer and I loved the gaming aspects and the movie references too 🙂 There is the usual OTT violence and banter and push-pull relationship. They get to the point that they kind of save each other 😉 So much fun to hear this in Michael’s voice. It’s a bit shorter than most of Alice’s books but it’s funny and action packed and ends on a sweet high note. Recommended.
