Book overview
He was prepared to gamble his blood, not his entire heart.
Vampires have always made Sven’s heart beat harder, but when his mother’s life is on the line, he decides to face his fears. He decides to become immortal so that he can pass that gift on to her.
Determined, he seeks out the Caller of Crows, a charismatic vampire by the name of Altair, and with his pulse pounding in his ears, he offers himself to the vampire and asks to be turned.
The problem is, Sven lives in a city that is ruled by the paranormal, and pure mortal blood has become exceedingly rare. It’s a treat that every vampire covets–and Altair is no exception. He doesn’t want to turn Sven and let his sweet, sweet blood go to waste. Instead, he locks Sven in his bedroom as a valuable prisoner, as his property.
In his desperation, Sven realizes what he must do to get what he wants from the vampire: he needs to make Altair fall for him, to make the handsome devil see him as something more than a hot meal. He needs to melt the ice around Altair’s heart and make him want eternity with Sven… and he needs to do it without falling for the ruthless vampire in return.
REVIEW:
This is a spinoff of Silvana Falcon’s The Last Mortals series. But can be read as a standalone. I’m not sure Silvana could create any more action or angst in this new series. Holy Cow!!
This story has it all good Vampires, bad vampires, virgin mortals, and crows. I loved the Sven character. when he was introduced in The Last Mortal series book. He is this sweet guy, trying to help his mom. Which continues in this book.
The World building continues to evolve and expand as we get further into this book. You get a sense of a darker storyline. Character development is fantastic. Nothing less than I’ve come to expect from a Silvana Falcon book. Sven is the sweet guy that falls for the handsome vampire, Altair. Who has a serious amount of baggage he is toting around. As usual side characters are fleshed out and developed just as if they are the main characters.
“Look what we have here,” Altair mused.
“A mortal, in my part of town, at my time of night.” Sven swallowed hard, realizing that it was his time to talk, but barely getting the words out. “I have a proposal for you.”
Altair raised a questioning eyebrow at Sven as if he wasn’t sure whether to take this mortal seriously or not. “You know who I am?”
Sven couldn’t blame the vampire for being confused. What sane mortal would approach the Caller of Crows with a proposal? “I know who you are,” Sven confirmed. “And I’m not scared.”
This story had the right combination of story elements for me. It has elements of sad, happy, torture, sexy times and found family.
Does Sven save his mother?
Does Altair grant Sven his wish?
If you want to know the answers, you need to read this new series from Silvana Falcon. I highly recommend this book and encourage you to run to your favorite eBook purchasing site and grab this one quickly. Can’t wait for book two in this series.
