Dax
I’ve cut and run on my life more than once in my thirty-one years, leaving everything behind, even my name. Now I’m Dax Crow, long lost half-brother and mixing technician for Jameson Crow, the lead singer of Corvus Rising. I’m using my hard-won skills to help my brother make it big. The rest of the band are incidental to me, although new bass player Lane Bennett is a hot mess of young talent who urgently needs someone to take him under their wing. Not my job. I never get close to anyone. Until some douche of a boyfriend begins jerking the kid around, and I’ve been there, done that. Maybe I can at least give him some advice.
Lane
Playing with Corvus Rising is my dream come true, and I can’t believe in October we’ll play for sixty thousand fans at Rocktoberfest. I just hope I can measure up. The last six months have been a steep learning curve, but I have my secret boyfriend to encourage and direct me whenever he’s around. I wish we could go public, but he’s with the record label and it wouldn’t look good. I also have my secret joy— performing drag as Ms. Fox, when I get the chance. It’s hard juggling everything while touring with the band, but I think I have it under control. Then my worlds collide and my boyfriend shows his true face. I find myself getting surprising advice and support from Dax, the gorgeous, secretive guy behind Corvus’s sound. But I doubt even Dax can turn this disaster into a triumph.

REVIEW:
Wow! What a way to kick Rocktoberfest off!
Dax is more than content to help his half-brother achieve the success that was robbed from him years ago. He loves to do his thing and his mixing skills, plus helping Jamie write their songs, make their music pop! He doesn’t need the limelight. Been there, done that, barely survived. But Jamie and the rest of Corvus Rising have no idea about any of that. When their new young bass player seems to be being used by his mystery boyfriend Dax becomes concerned that Lane doesn’t seem very content with the relationship. When following him one night he discovers other Lane’s secret. Ms. Fox blows him away. But how can he help the young man and hold on to himself and his own secrets in the process?
I just fell head over heels with Dax and Lane. I need more of the rockstar stories Ms. Harper creates and her insight to each of their personal struggles. She captured the essence of both men and I didn’t want to let them go. The transformation of Dax was what really got to me. The hard exterior that Lane was able to finally break through. The care and protective nature that he showed to Lane, Princess and his brother Jamie. All that after all he fought through from such a young age to survive! Lane was young, naïve, and vulnerable. Fame had been thrust at him so quickly and he was overwhelmed and under prepared. Yes he was a true genius on the bass guitar but hadn’t really had time to develop the life skills to protect himself and survive the rush. Dax had lived through so much by the time he was 31 that he seemed so much older. That might have been because all those various identities had already filled his life. And he couldn’t just stand by and let Richard ruin one more young man. Their solution was priceless and perfect!
This was the perfect kickoff for the newest Rocktoberfest season and I can’t wait to dive into more of these author’s stories.
