How did I find myself in the middle of two wars?
Like much of the nation, Orlando is in the midst of political and societal unrest. Protests are a nightly occurrence, and the cities criminal organizations are taking advantage of the overworked police force. What looks like a Motorcycle gang spat turns out to have deeper roots, and murder and mayhem follow. Add in a string of attacks on LEO’s, rising tensions all around, and a confrontation with an extremist nothing could prepare me for, and I’m reaching the end of a rope I’ve weaved with years of therapy and healing.
As the pieces of the puzzle start coming together, I find myself standing in the crossfire of it all. Hate faces us at every turn, and if Jules and I don’t find a way to cut it off at the head, the city we’ve sworn to protect is going to have bigger issues than a few looters.
But nothing is what it seems, the threat is getting closer to home, and amid a world gone mad, I find the people I’ve come to lean on now need me to prove their efforts aren’t wasted.
My love for Alex has survived worse than this, but if I’m not careful, I might not.
REVIEW:
OK!! This book blows away the previous three. I couldn’t put it down and just zoomed through my read. This is the fourth and final book in B.H. Lynn’s Stay Grounded series. Disclaimer- Please read the series in order as this story picks up from where book three ended. The universe B.H. has created for this series, just gets better and better. She continues to build on the bones and creativity of the original story. This book takes place a year after book 3. As Alex and Trevor settle into their new life together, murder and mayhem reign. The creativity and level of creating a multiple layered murder mystery is brilliant. Adding to the mystery is other plot lines interspersed through out the book. Whether they have anything to do with the main mystery is something you will have to read the book to find out. Be warned there are red herrings throughout the book, and you will seriously question who dun it many times throughout the book.
Her worldbuilding continues to draw the reader in and enhance the story line. Character development is also off the charts in this one. From the main characters to the side characters, each one not only moves the story along, but has an important role to play. Which enhances the themes that continue to run through each of the books in this series – Hurt/comfort, PTSD, Found Family. The prose is particularly well done in this book. I loved the level of snark displayed by Trevor and his partner Jules – in particular.
He huffed and shook his head, arms drawing tighter and making his biceps test the limit of his shirt. “Thank you, Merrill!” He clutched the collar of his bullet-proof vest. “I’m so glad a detective was here to help me sort all that out.”
I opened my mouth to tell him he wouldn’t know the first thing about it when Jules entered the fold.
“You guys gonna measure your dicks all day or …?” Jules lifted the umbrella she’d snagged until it covered my head and pinned Karr with an annoyed, tight browed glare. “You wanna tell us what you’ve got so far so we can get out of the rain?”
Sexy times include more heat and intensity, that only adds to the enjoyment and plot of the story. I found this one to be the best book in the series. It has the best storyline, themes, characters and worldbuilding. I am sad to be leaving this series, as I have really come to love Trevor and Alex. I highly recommend this book and series. I’m excited to see what else this author writes.
