Dragon shifter Devlin thinks he has it all. A nice cabin in Ruidoso in the mountains of New Mexico. A good golf game. And Symon, the sweet dragon who comes to stay more and more often, and who he’s pretty sure is his mate.
Symon adores Devlin, but he doesn’t want to move to town full time and leave his family home in the high reaches above Cloudcroft. And when he turns up pregnant after a solstice stay with Devlin, he knows he has to make a run for it and go home to get ready for the heavy winter snow and the baby that will come. He tells himself he can be happy with what he has and let Devlin stay in the life he loves.
Devlin has other ideas, though, and he has to convince Symon he can give up all the conveniences of town in order to not be a solitary dragon anymore…
REVIEW:
I love diving back into the Dragon Veil Universe
Symon has been coming down and staying more and more time with Devlin. He knows he loves him but Devlin loves living in town with all the human amenities close at hand and he would never be able to live there full time. But he has hinted to Devlin enough times that he wanted him to see his ancestral home he now lives in alone. When a miscalculation on the solstice leave him sick and his birth line already appearing he knows it’s time to go. He would never force Devlin to choose between him and the life he loves. Plus, he couldn’t bear the pain if Devlin chose the human world over him and his new discovery. So he did the only thing he could think of. Load up everything he has there, leave a good bye note expressing his love and head home.
Devlin has suspected for awhile now that Symon is his true mate. Things have been perfect and Symon has been staying more often and longer every visit. So Symon’s sudden departure, while he’s out golfing, with nothing more than a good bye love note leaves him baffled. And the pain of that departure makes one thing crystal clear…Symon is Devlin’s mate and he is a fool! It takes a spry little leprechaun-looking dragon shifter to get his butt in gear and find his Symon. But will he still want him since he’s been so clueless? And when he finally finds him he discovers that Symon is definitely pregnant with at least one baby but Devin suspects there may be more!
I really liked their story. Symon is such a sweetie and head over heels in love with his alpha. Devlin is the typical clueless alpha that likes his creature comforts but takes action when he needs to. Stormy is always such a wonderful part of this universe as the tiny dragon shifter midwife.
My only problem was that this particular story was a bit too short. In some of the other books in this universe you have a continuing storyline with characters you already know. In the Solitary Dragons series these are more a standalone. Yes, you have Stormy. But you don’t know any of the lead up how they met and as to why Symon (and I love this unique spelling) really didn’t want to leave his home. You got a brief explanation of why he couldn’t stay in town because of his pregnancy. . You also have no clue to Devlin’s life before he move to his town or how long he’s been there. Or even how long they have been together. And it is obvious that they each have cell phones and been staying long periods of time together but they never exchanged numbers so Devlin could have called when Symon ran?
Like I said. I really liked this book but felt it just need a bit more storyline to it.
