When I catch a silver fox checking me out with hunger in his eyes, my body is instantly on board. My brain? Not so much. Because Joshua Miller, smoking hot billionaire, is also my best friend’s dad. Houston, we have a problem. This gorgeous man is twenty years older than me and used to being in charge. But my bestie will never forgive me if I jump his dad. When Joshua recognizes me, his desire turns to shock and then nothing. Problem solved. Or is it?
Joshua
I’ve never had a reaction this intense to anyone before, let alone a man. But when recognition sets in, my desire is doused with a cold bucket of reality. All grown up, Brock Abbott is sexy and confident and irresistible. He’s also off limits. My son already hates me and repairing our relationship is my number one priority. Except now my goals are shifting. Brock needs my help, and I can’t deny him anything. Even when I should.
After feeling alone for so long, I can’t resist Brock or this thing between us. He’s feisty, sweet, and beautiful. And mine. I can’t give him up. But making amends to my son won’t mean anything if I continue to lie to him. How much longer can I hide Brock away?
The Hang Up is 50,000+ words and is Book 3 in the Sloan Brothers series. It’s a best friend’s dad, age gap, bi awakening, mm romance that can be read as a standalone and has a HEA.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the third book in the series and as such has an overlapping timeline with Message Received, so there are some spoilers.
Brock has a lot on his plate. Culinary school. His internship at the best restaurant in town. His sister’s cancer treatment. His roommate/lifelong best friend Sean Miller keeping his job so that they can pay the rent and other bills. What he does NOT need is for his long time crush on Sean’s dad to finally catch Joshua Miller’s attention. He also doesn’t need Joshua to finally act on his new attraction to Brock now that he’s an actual adult. Especially since Sean and Joshua’s relationship is finally getting back on track after a long estrangement after their family fell apart.
Joshua has retired from his CEO job. A heart attack nearly killed him. A divorce broke up finally what had been a family with plenty of cracks. His son Sean – who has blamed him for everything from not being there and working all the time to the divorce – is finally agreeing to talk to him again. Then he sees a gorgeous guy at a restaurant while at dinner with his assistant Mitch. He’s not prepared for the guy to turn around and be the grownup best friend of his adult son. Oh boy. Well. This is awkward 😉
Joshua and Brock can’t seem to stay away from each other though. Mitch calls it of course – he knows Joshua better than anyone. But because of the situation with Sean, their age difference and of course Sean’s difficult relationship with his father, this spells all kinds of disaster. Too bad they can’t seem to get the message.
Joshua has dated in years. He has no idea what to do. He doesn’t want to go to clubs and dance. He thinks Brock will get tired of him and find someone his own age eventually. And of course there is the issue of Sean finding out just when they seem to be starting to rebuild their relationship. Brock is worried that Joshua still seems him as a child in too many ways. There are plenty of obstacles for them to overcome. And just how long can they keep this a secret? Brock has been out and proud forever. Joshua has only been seen with women. How will all this affect the charity that he’s working on? And what will happen if they come out to Sean as a couple?
I really really enjoyed this book. This follows a lot of the timeline of the second book, but focuses on Brock rather than Sean. Sean and Ben play a significant part here, but we also get to meet Brock’s family and understand the dynamic with Joshua and Sean and their family a lot more. Mitch, Joshua’s assistant is a delight! I hope we get to see more of him and his boyfriend Todd at some point. This book focused really just on Brock and Joshua and the things they face in trying to figure out if what they feel is real and how they can move forward with a relationship when they know that there are people who will be shocked, surprised and substantially less than supportive. Despite Sean and Brock’s mother wanting them both to be happy, when it’s revealed that they want to be happy with each other, well there is some friction. Luckily everyone decides to behave like a grown up. Eventually 😉 This is a super cute story with a well deserved happy ending. Highly recommended. I’m looking forward to the next book 🙂 This series just gets better and better.
