REVIEW:
I loved this book, it follows on from the short story (A Scent Like No Other) in the Fated Mates Anthology and whilst you don’t need to read that short to enjoy this book, it does give more insight.
Pierre and Eli are haunted by what happened to their third. Pierre blames himself for not waiting and Eli blames himself for not wanting to rock the relationship he has with Pierre by finding their third. They both feel guilty and mourn what might have been, every year on the anniversary of the event that changed their lives, they hold a ritual and send love and good feelings out into the universe for their lost third, the one they never had a chance to love, the one who was killed in front of them.
Mondo, has a hole in his memory, a big chunk is missing. He is an enforcer for the Magical Council and after a mission went terribly wrong, a mission he can’t remember, but where he was injured horribly and ended up with his memories missing. The only thing is that he dreams of two men, who love each other very much, but that he feels shut out of, like he is on the other side of a glass screen, looking in but not being able to take part and he very much wants to take part. Mondo is very confused by everything, are his dreams about real people, or are they just a figment of his imagination, but he continues doing his job and duty to the council. There seems to be many secrets and lies swirling around that Mondo can’t seem to put together.
A curious set of circumstances or is it fate, brings the three men together and they start to unravel the mysteries of the past. They find themselves back where it all started on that fateful day so many years ago, will they prevail this time or will fate cruelly snatch away what has just been returned to them.
The connection that is forged between the three of them is undeniable and it was lovely to see how the relationship dynamic that had been just between Pierre and Eli, adjusted and expanded to accommodate Mondo. It is not plain sailing, with allowances being made all around but when the chips are down and once again everything could be lost, Eli rises to the occasion doing everything in his power to save his mates.
