Love comes in all colors…
Art evaluator Miles Tate is finally about to start living his dream… that is if he can get the funding in place to open his own art gallery in New York. But when an unexpected turn of events finds every one of Miles’ perfectly-planned dreams turned upside-down, it’s time to escape Manhattan and reluctantly take up a well-paid job in the tiny seaside town of Hope’s Bluff, Georgia. For Miles, it’s his only chance to make some money, claw back what little dignity he has left, and figure out what the hell to do with his life.
But evaluating the art collection of a deceased estate isn’t made easy by the grandson of the dearly departed. Indeed, the young man who calls himself Rainbow is a hot-tempered, hotter-than-hell artist whose secrets run deep and passions run raw. He is talented, troubled, tempestuous and deaf… and possibly the one person who can save Miles from his own heartache.
Can Miles finish the job he’s been paid to do… or will two opposites find that they have more in common than they first imagined? Can the pair of them find the strength in each other to rebuild their lives… or will the traumas of their pasts drive them both away? Will Miles turn his back on the handsome, hurt, artistic genius he’s stumbled upon… or will he finally find true love in the arms of a Boy Called Rainbow?
REVIEW:
Miles thought he had his whole life figured out, but then it gets totally turned upside down. He’s feeling lost and alone and in need of escape. He never expected to meet Rainbow.
Rainbow is different in a place where being different isn’t really tolerated well. It’s hard, especially when you feel so alone. When Miles barges into his life, Rainbow may finally find someone who cares enough to understand him.
I really liked the main characters in this story. I connected with them both right away and the author did a great job of making them personable and easy to relate to. The picture that is painted of the small, southern town is easy to see in my mind, although I’m not sure I’d want to visit.
However my issue is that the side characters and villians come off a little “cartoonish”. They are all over-the-top, especially the villans and there are too many of them. From Miles’ ex to Rainbow’s brother, it was all too much and split the focus of the story in too many directions. I enjoyed Delphine and her cats and Mr. Getty but once again, they were a bit much.
I am giving this story 3.5 out of 5 because of how much I like the main characters and their interactions with each other. They had fabulous chemistry and they both really brought out the best in each other. I also enjoyed the premise of this story but would have liked to have seen a little more…anticipation built up before getting to the nitty gritty of everything.
It’s got some steam as well but it didn’t overshadow the story so I appreciated that very much. I just wish the author had slowed things down a little bit and toned down the bad guys a little to make them a little more realistic.
Robin Knight has some good characters and some great ideas, but this story left me wanting a little bit more in terms of side character development and story development. I also wish I could see some of the art the author describes in the story. It all sounds amanzing.
