LENGTH: 56 pages
RELEASE DATE: September 2, 2023
BLURB:
Dear Henri, there was a man at the restaurant this evening who looked so much like you that I winked at him and laughed.
One letter from his ex, Isidor, is all it takes to turn Henri’s world upside down. It’s been a decade since they broke up, a decade since they couldn’t make their long-distance relationship work despite their best efforts.
Do you ever think back on the decisions we made and wonder if we could’ve tried harder?
Isidor was the one that got away, the one who’s impossible to forget, and Henri still questions the decisions they made back then. Could they have fought harder for what they had?
My darling Henri. I still dream of you after all this time.
Is ten years apart too long, or will old feelings reignite when Henri and Isidor meet again?
REVIEW:
Once again, Nell Iris, the master of the short story, writes a touching story of love lost and love found again 🙂
Henri and Isidor met one night and basically that was it. They were together. Isidor was doing a graduate program and Henri was an electrician. Their plan was when Isidor finished his masters, he would getting his PhD and Henri would follow him since he would be able to get a job anywhere. but then circumstances change and Henri cannot leave to follow Isidor 700 km away 🙁 They try to keep a long distance relationship going, but both are busy and eventually they agree to break up. It’s a heartbreaking last night together.
When Henri receives a letter from Isidor 10 years later, his world is knocked off his axis. Should they have tried harder? Could they have made it work? Can they still? Henri can’t stop thinking about it and sends a letter back. They have never gotten over each other and maybe now the timing is right for them to try again and harder to make it work.
UGH! I loved this! The letters. The characters. The way they decided they needed to move forward potentially together. So beautifully written – heartbreaking, hopeful, beautiful. Highly recommended.
