The ice is my happy place. My sanctuary. The source of my happiest memories, and the promise of my future. It’s also the reason I’m living a lie.
As a kid you don’t think about the sacrifices you’ll have to make for your dreams. After all, dreams are supposed to be happy, so all you see is the finish line, not what you’ll have to give up to get there.
I surrendered a carefree childhood to hours upon hours of grueling practices. Abandoned life with my family in favor of a boarding school that would hone my skills to perfection. But my biggest sacrifice, the one I couldn’t predict I’d have to make as a little boy, is denying who I am.
To the world I’m the top rookie in this year’s NHL draft. The most promising defender the league has seen in years. For years that’s all I wanted to be, and now that I’m here…
I knew my career would intersect with my personal life at some point, I just didn’t expect it to happen before I played my first pro game.
That’s why he is so dangerous. My lifelong dream is within reach, and now there’s another I want to pursue. If only it weren’t such bad pucking timing.
REVIEW:
This is a hard review to write, sometimes it is easier to write a review of a book you are totally blown away with or a book that just totally didn’t resonate with you than to write something for a book you just liked quite a bit.
Niko and Xander meet each other not knowing that they will meet each other again soon in a totally different capacity. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I really liked their instant connection even from the moment they meet for the second time, so to speak.
What I would loved to have read is some more personal indepth but what we got was in my opinion a bit too much sex (and trust me coming from me that says something 😀 )
I loved the conversations between Niko and Xander but also with their friends.
I loved all the side characters and am really cheering for Trip and Noah, but also the other teammates are awesome and I really loved them. They include Trip and Noah who I mentioned were absolutely a bonus to the overal story.
The story flow is really good though and it is easy to read this story, the writing is fine also.
You can connect easily to all the characters both main characters with either the sunny Niko or/and the brooding Xander or even one of the mentioned side characters.
What a wonderful addition is the fact that we find out as a reader how deep their love goes with what both of them are willing to do to stay together (either giving up your dream or going back in the closet) and they definitely have a wonderful HEA.
Overall a nice, easy, low angst story that you can enjoy.
