Preston James did things to me. Things that had me wanting more of him and his dirty mouth, even though I knew I better. Things that made my heart race. Things that made me come to realize there was more to my boss’s best friend than met the eye.
Nick Reed
As one of the bartenders at Alejandro’s Bar, I’ve seen it all. I’ve even watched my friends, Christian and Cooper, both find the loves of their life. Six years after breaking up with my college boyfriend, I’m convinced that’s not the life I’m supposed to have until forty-five-year-old Preston James makes me the target of his relentless sexy stares and his straight-forward, dirty propositions.
Maybe being the object of his desire wouldn’t be so bad.
Preston James
The first time I laid eyes on Nicholas Reed, I knew I had to have him. There was something about my best friend’s bartender that captivated me. The more he ignored me, the more I wanted him. For the first time in my life, this twenty-eight-year-old grad student had me jumping through all kinds of hoops to get his attention. There’s nothing I won’t do to prove to him I’m exactly what he needs. I’m relentless like that and I won’t stop until he’s mine.
We Could Do This Forever is the first book in the We Could Do This Duet and is an MM Bisexual Romance. Additional tropes: Age Gap; Mutual Pining; Boss’s Best Friend; Secretly Wealthy
REVIEW:
Nick is a bartender at Alejandro’s bar. He’s getting his Master’s in Architecture. Preston is a restauranteur/chef whose best friend is Alejandro. As soon as he see’s Nick at the bar, well he’s smitten. They’ve been circling each other for a year before things get personal. But they’ve got a few obstacles in their way before they can be a couple. Jobs, long hours, school work, Senior projects. How can they make this work? You’ll have to read it to find out 😀
Oh this was an absolute treat! This spinoff from the Emerson Beckett and Rheland Richmond The Package Deal series was so good 🙂 I loved Nick and Preston. They are very different guys, but there is loads of mutual attraction/flirting/pining between them for a VERY long time before they actually get together. Both have been through difficult breakups in the past and they are each pretty guarded to begin with – not wanting to deal with heartbreak again. But once they get together – well things are SCORCHING hot! The thing is that they really enjoy each other’s company as well. Preston is very protective and caring about Nick – and also a bit territorial and jealous too. Nick has to put him in his place a time or two. When Preston shares his past with Nick, it’s clear that Nick gets why Preston is so skittish about relationships. Nick is also up front about his professional desires and how he won’t give up his aspirations for anything. He just sort of forgets to include some of the details. Both men react in believable and damaging ways to the things that do go a bit sideways in their relationship. There is a wonderful supporting cast of family and friends though that try to make sure that they don’t destroy the best thing that has ever happened to them.
I adored getting some cameos from the guys from the The Package Deal series. Nick works at Alejandro’s the bar that the Portland Pirates teammates hang out at. We’ve already met Alejandro and Preston is his best friend – so it makes sense that he would hang out there too. But the main reason he hangs out there is to see one of the bartenders 😉 I really liked the writing in this book. There are so many romantic moments. Christmastime in New York was really beautifully written. The family relationships, the friendships, the work partnerships all rang true. This is just a super romantic and swoony love story with some missteps that nearly derail our MCs a few times. But all’s well that ends well – particularly with the super romantic epilogue. Well done! Highly recommended.
