Description
Detective Hanni Nassar finds himself in enemy territory while investigating a string of robberies. After accidentally crossing the Central Empire’s borderline, he comes face to face with Jaemin Yi, a high-ranking Alpha of the Southern Empire’s Elite.
A cop and a gangster, both Hanni and Jaemin are suspicious of each other at first. Jaemin wants to know what Hanni’s doing on Southern turf, and Hanni wants to know if Jaemin’s notorious boss has any involvement with his case. Their initial meeting is tense, but soon Jaemin starts pursuing him for his own dissolute reasons.
Despite the clandestine rumblings through the streets of Luxor City, this isn’t about a case anymore.
Jaemin Yi is persistent. He thaws Hanni’s frigid airs and shows him there’s nothing wrong with caving to his more primal desires once in a while. As an Omega working in an Alpha-dominated field, Hanni has buried the Omegan side of himself, and Jaemin seems keen to draw it to the surface.
But where did his sudden interest come from? And will the lines crossed be too much for Hanni to handle or will adversarial passions heat up the borders between Empires?

Over the course of the next week, Hanni finished handing off his entire caseload to the new contact he’d been given from the Southern Empire. She was an Alpha police chief south of the border named Minyoung Tae. Not three days after Hanni had sent over the last document, the news broke that the group of thieves responsible for the spree of robberies throughout the Central Empire had been apprehended in the South. With an early tip-off from a member of the Empire’s Elite and evidence compiled by the Central Empire’s police force, the Southern Empire had been able to uncover the culprits who had been traveling up to the Central Empire and robbing Dominik Wesa’s bars.
Hanni was somewhat impressed by their diligence. Then again, he’d been a hair’s breadth away from apprehending the perps himself, had Jaemin Yi not gotten in the way.
Joint statements were quickly issued following the arrests: one from Dominik Wesa himself, thanking the South for their hard work, and another from the Southern Alpha, Xijuan Sun, thanking the Central Empire for their cooperation in sharing the information that led to the capture of the delinquents.
They never mentioned the information hadn’t exactly come willingly.
Shaking his head, Hanni tapped at his tablet, closing out the case files he’d been working on with a sigh. He leaned on the edge of his desk, surrounded by a few other officers. They all stood around the big screen that hung above their workstations watching the press conference airing live on one of the Southern news channels. A sergeant from the Southern Empire’s police force was just finishing up a statement about the arrests and the crimes committed.
“Glad we can rule out the South plotting against the Central Empire,” Chief Noor’s secretary, Ezra, said as he sipped his coffee. He was a tall, skinny Beta man who loved to gossip. His glowing green eyes shifted to Hanni as a smirk spread across his dark lips. “That was your case, wasn’t it? How much do you hate having to watch these Southerners get all the credit, hm?”
Hanni let out an amused huff of agreement. Yes, as much as he hated having a case pulled out from under him, he was glad they didn’t have bigger issues to deal with. Being taken off the case was preferable to having said case turn into an investigation into some kind of Southern coup.
Ezra clearly didn’t need an answer; Hanni’s expression was enough to make his smirk widen. He turned from the TV. “Oh, isn’t that guy one of Junsu Sun’s men?” he murmured suddenly.
Hanni frowned because there wasn’t anyone fitting that description on the TV. He turned to catch a glimpse of who Ezra was staring at.
Yasmeen was blocking his view, standing near the railing on the top floor balcony where their workstations were. The top floor looked out over the police station’s lobby and the bullpen down below, offering a clear view of everyone who was coming and going. She’d clearly also noticed whoever Ezra had seen and was craning her neck to catch a glimpse of someone down below just as the speech playing on the TV finished up.
Hanni stepped around Ezra and moved toward Yasmeen. He was curious to check out the new arrival. However, as soon as he took in exactly which of Junsu Sun’s Alphas it was, his eyes widened.
Standing in the precinct lobby was none other than Jaemin Yi. As if sensing Hanni’s eyes on him, the Southern Alpha turned. His gaze found Hanni in the upper balcony. Jaemin smirked and raised his hand in a short wave.
Yasmeen waved back cheerily while Hanni spun around at a lightning pace and scurried back to his desk. He sat heavily in his chair and pulled himself up to his computer, turning on his screens and trying to dive back into his tasks for the day.
