SERIES: South Rock High
AUTHOR: A.J. Truman
PUBLISHER: Truman Books
LENGTH: 280 pages
RELEASE DATE: September 6, 2023
BLURB:
Today’s experiment: Combine one socially awkward science teacher with two beefy, former students. Mix well.
I love watching chemicals bond, but I avoid the practice myself.
When I’m not teaching, I’m hanging out with my cat and putting together puzzles. I shy away from romantic entanglements because I know firsthand the collateral damage they cause.
Until I bump into Anton and Sebastian: best friends, business partners. and former wrestling superstars at South Rock High who could barely pass my class. Catching up turns into drinking, which turns into dancing, which turns into them practicing wrestling moves on me, sans clothing.
It’s clear that the men have a history—and some unresolved feelings between them—but being the piece of meat in their jock sandwich unleashes a wild, confident side in me I can’t ignore.
The other thing I can’t ignore: we’re falling for each other.
With three hearts on the line, I can’t risk destroying their close friendship and burgeoning business, not to mention reliving my own past pain. But is the chemical attraction between us too strong to ignore?
Advanced Chemistry is a teacher/former students, nerd/jock, friends-to-lovers MMM romance filled with humor, heart, and hot guys. Chase, Anton, and Sebastian will put the A-plus in HEA, and like all good students, there’s no cheating. It’s the fourth book in the South Rock High series, which revolves around a found family of nerdy gay high school teachers, but can be read as a standalone.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the fourth book in this series and contains major spoilers for the previous books. Read out of order at your own risk 😉
Seb and Anton are former students of Chase who is the chemistry teacher at South Rock High. They’ve been out of high school a few years and are best friends, roommates and business partners. They started their business straight out of HS and they have been slowly building a successful Vending Machine business. They are on the cusp of landing their biggest client when a serendipitous meeting with their former teacher at a festival leads to an impromptu afternoon of TV and sex at their apartment. Say what???
Chase is a pretty buttoned up, logical, ordered life kind of guy. He loves this job. He’s gobsmacked how this goes from a fun hangout to sex! But he actually really is into it. His friends are very shocked. But he definitely wants to do it again 😉
One fly in the ointment is that Seb has been in love with Anton for years. When the are in the throws of the sex with Chase, all is well. Once he starts to think about it afterwards though, he’s jealous. And competitive. Anton meanwhile is worried that he’s not smart enough to keep anybody interested long term – hence he’s only done hookups and has no interest in a relationship. Chase seems to be the catalyst though for them all getting maybe what they really need. (See what I did there 😉 ?)
These series is just so fun! It’s also hilarious. More than once I was laughing out loud. Chase is an absolute hoot. His perspective is different and kind of refreshing. His bonding with Sebastian is poignant since they both have abandonment issues. Anton and his fear that he’s just not smart enough to keep someone’s interest is really a little bit heartbreaking too. When they finally figure out that they work as a threesome, well it’s actually quite sweet. There is plenty of sexy times too though – fear not! Of course the rest of the guys and their SOs figure large in the support role for Chase and his former students 😉 There is also a really cute wedding side story that I loved. Honestly, if you’re in the mood to laugh and have a good time with some surprising friends to lover when they add an unexpected third, then I think you’ll enjoy this installment in a highly entertaining series. Humor and heart are the hallmarks of this series and this book continues that theme. Highly recommended.
