Shaun
Three years ago, I left King’s Bay and the man I loved behind to climb the corporate ladder in New York City. It broke my own heart, and I was left with the same question that has plagued me my whole life:
Am I making a mistake?
It took three years for me to get my answer, but sometimes, it’s too late to do anything about your mistakes.
Benji
Three years ago, the man I loved made a decision that affected both of us. He made it without talking to me. He broke my heart, but more than that, he broke my trust.
I have to keep reminding myself of this now that he’s back.
Because once trust is broken, it’s hard to get back. Second chances may be great in books and movies, but this is the real world and things are never that easy.
Mr. Second Chance is a second chance romance novel and the second book of the Introductions duet. This book can be read as a standalone but is best enjoyed as a series.
REVIEW:
Benji and Shaun were dating. Then Shaun decided to go for a promotion at work. It involved a move to New York City. He didn’t discuss it at all with Benji beforehand which led to their breakup. Maybe they would have broken up anyway when Shaun left, but the deal breaker to Benji was that Shaun didn’t communicate with him at all about it until it was a done deal.
Shaun spent three years in New York never feeling like he was home. He needs to do something about it and after being back for his best friend Liam’s wedding to Benji’s brother Reed, he decides to see if he can figure out a way to get back home. Luckily there is a job opening that would be a promotion, so he decides to go for it. Again, he does this without letting anyone at home know. While he’s there for the interview, he has lunch with Liam and they run into Benji – who is shocked to see him there.
When Shaun gets the job and returns to King’s Bay, Benji realizes he’s going to have to figure out how to get on with him again. As his brother-in-law’s best friend, he will certainly be around much of the time. He’s not sure how he really feels about that. But he’s going to have to figure it out because Shaun’s home for good.
This is a cute second chances story. Not a lot of new ground covered here but these guys come from pretty opposite backgrounds so it’s not unreasonable that their reactions to things were so different. Shaun realized that he made a mistake not talking to Benji before he left for New York and Benji has to learn to trust that Shaun isn’t the same guy that left three years ago. Their communication needed work and they are both in a better place to make that happen. A nice supporting cast help too – especially Liam and Reed. Their connection is true and the just have to work their way to trust once more to make things work for them. Recommended.
