Working for a racing star isn’t a bad gig. Illegally tattooing wings on his back in order to get the job is where it gets hazy. The possible consequences if Vid is ever found out are not something he likes to dwell on too much. That is until Mateo crashes into his life.
Literally.
Mateo is a mess. With a capital M. He’s fresh out of a one-sided mating, with a daughter he has to put first and a sense of guilt that’s threatening to swallow him whole. He’s not exactly what anyone would call a catch. No wonder his mate took one look at him and bolted.
Fate has decided they belong together. Will their decisions keep them apart?
REVIEW:
I love these journeys back to this mythical universe.
Vid is Fire’s sports therapist that we met in Fire’s book. He is not only helping Fire get back in the races but also helping Rio and Fire out at the Rec Center with the kids learning to compete in racing. Vid’s day was getting later and later and he was racing through the parking lot when he collided with Mateo. And what a strange encounter that was. The guy was about his age and super hot but he was acting super strange and didn’t want him to go. Now Vid discovers the guy is the father of the little racing protégé in their program. When Mateo wants to meet up to talk, Vid thinks it’s about his daughter Piper’s training. Color him shocked when Mateo blurts out that Vid is his mate…his Kriila mate! But Mateo has to be mistaken because Vid is a human passing as a Kriila so he can do his dream job as a sports therapist.
I felt so badly for poor, sweet, inept Mateo. First he is stuck in a one-sided mating with his best friend. At least they had Pip from that mating but it has been so hard trying to keep Helen happy so he can see his daughter when he broke her mother’s heart by rejecting their bond. A bond that he never experienced. Yea, one-sided mating is super rare but he couldn’t bear to deny his best friend back then. Now he lives with the guilt and agony he caused. Meeting Vid and being rejected seemed like karma but when Vid finally comes clean with why he didn’t feel their bond Mateo is super accommodating. I loved that Mateo didn’t want to push Vid because he didn’t feel the automatic mate pull a Kriila would. But Vid did feel even though it was part of being a human. He felt the need to be close and just be together. So, at least to me, they were mates from the start.
I have truly enjoyed this series and getting to see another Kriila/human mating plus getting to seeing Kiran and Jude. I had a feeling Rio would have a hand in getting Vid help but he came through in flying technicolor just as you would expect. Sticking it his grandparents was just the icing on the cake!
I don’t know who is up next but I am hooked on this universe that these two authors have created and want, no need more!!! I am hoping that we get Zero and Bellamy’s story and then Speed. He really needs someone that can get him to be not so self absorbed lol!
