Public Affair by Kristian Parker
Queens Crescent, Book 4
London is in the grip of a heatwave, but something else is causing Nihal Varma’s temperature to skyrocket.
The CEO of a PR agency, he’s used to dealing with glamourous and beautiful people. He’s woken up with a lot of them too.
Yet when Carl Carrington, MP and candidate for leader of the opposition, walks into his office, Nihal finds himself a bag of nerves. And that never happens. He soon discovers that not only is Carl stunning to look at, he radiates decency. In Nihal’s world, that’s a very rare commodity.
When Carl insists on working with Nihal only, he’s entranced. Could this MP be interested in a man whose past is…chequered, to say the least? Nihal ‘I don’t do relationships’ Varma really hopes so. Even if getting involved with a client, especially such a high-profile one, is not just crazy. It’s insane.
But for once Nihal is out of control and that makes a man do very strange things…

Nihal stepped over some rubble and found himself inside the old warehouse. The usual graffiti and empty bottles and cans littered the place. Other than that, it seemed to be in perfect condition. He made a mental note to speak to Jeff about this. It might be a great opportunity. They had spoken about diversifying into property. Fat chance of that in London where a garden shed could set you back a six-figure sum.
“What are you doing?”
Nihal leapt sky high. To his relief, Carl peered through the gap in the wall Nihal had just come through.
“Why don’t you grab a brick and finish me off?” Nihal said, clutching his chest.
“The taxi will be ten minutes,” Carl replied. “So, I repeat. What are you doing?”
Nihal walked farther into the space. “Look at this,” he said, casting his arms wide. “It could be fantastic. A hotel or offices or even housing. It’s a crying shame.”
Carl stepped in so he stood next to Nihal. He took the place in. “You have a point. There must be a lot of these just standing empty. I wonder what the plans are for them.”
It appeared that people had been sleeping rough here. Nihal didn’t blame them. It would serve as perfect shelter from the freezing winds coming in from the Irish Sea. Even in the hot summer’s day, he shivered a little.
“If these walls could talk, eh?” he said.
“Hey, what’s that?” Carl said. He climbed up a pile of rubble. At the top, he carefully ripped a flyer off the wall. “They had raves in here, back in the day. Blimey, nineteen-ninety-two.”
Nihal tried not to bristle. He could remember going out drinking that year. No doubt Carl would have been tucked up in bed with his teddy bear.
Carl started to make his way back down. The rubble shifted under his weight, and he lost his balance. Without thinking, Nihal leapt forward and grabbed him. Carl’s slender body didn’t pose much problem for Nihal, who prided himself on attending the gym at least three times a week.
Carefully he guided Carl down.
“Thanks,” Carl said, breathlessly.
“You’re very welcome,” Nihal replied.
“You can let go now.”
“Do I have to?”
“I think it would be a good idea.”
“Since when were good ideas any fun?”
Carl pressed closer to Nihal. He licked his lips. Nihal yearned to know what those lips tasted like. His heart soared when Carl placed his hand on his shoulder. Nihal could swear that Carl would be able to hear his heart hammering away in his chest. Slowly, Carl pulled Nihal close.
Just as Nihal relaxed, ready for the big moment, Carl’s phone sounded.
Bang. They were back in the real world with a bump. Carl leapt away from Nihal as if a pack of paparazzi were crowding every window. He checked his phone.
“The Uber is nearly here,” he said, “We’d better get going.”
He scrambled out of the warehouse, leaving Nihal standing stock-still.
“Yeah, I suppose we better had,” he replied to the empty warehouse before following Carl back out into the fresh summer air.

About the Author:
I have written for as long as I could write. In fact, before, when I would dictate to my auntie. I love to read, and I love to create worlds and characters.
I live in the English countryside. When I’m not writing, I like to get out there and think through the next scenario I’m going to throw my characters into.
Inspiration can be found anywhere, on a train, in a restaurant or in an office. I am always in search of the next character to find love in one of my stories. In a world of apps and online dating, it is important to remember love can be found when you least expect it.
