BLURB:
Peaches is a nature pixie. Fully bonded to his orchard, he can only leave his land for a finite time. Plants, soil, daylight, and every living thing Mother Nature has on tap flows like liquid sunshine through Peaches’s lively veins.
Lucroy Moony was born into his vampiric second life over six hundred years ago. King of the Southeastern nest in the United States, Lucroy is responsible for more than his bar, Dusk. Lucroy only comes alive when the sun goes down. The moon and stars are his backdrop—the sun the quickest path to a pile of ash. Death and darkness fill Lucroy’s body with borrowed blood.
Pixies and vampires couldn’t be more different, and yet, Lucroy and Peaches find themselves drawn together time and again. But vampire myth cautions that pixie blood is deadly, and Lucroy’s willing to put that tale to the test. Nothing that smells as temptingly delicious as Peaches’s blood can be toxic. Right?
Lucroy wants nothing more than to court fate with his pixie, but someone’s been whispering in the vampire council’s ears, and they aren’t pleased to learn Lucroy killed a werewolf to save a pixie. If the council decides Lucroy was in the wrong, his life is forfeit, and the nest he’s tried so hard to protect could be left in sadistic hands.
Lucroy needs to convince the council pixies aren’t toxic but precious creatures. And, more importantly, one pixie, in particular, is his beloved—his Perfectly Perfect Pixie, Peaches.
REVIEW:
I really enjoyed this second book in the series, we had briefly met both Peaches and Lucroy in the first book. It was great to find out more about both characters and to watch their relationship develop.
Peaches is fantastic, as a nature pixie, he has found his forever place in the apple orchard and is happiest living among and tending to his precious trees. He has forged an unlikely friendship with Lucroy the vampire who defended him during the trial for custody of Sedrick’s children. As strange happenings start to take place at Peaches orchard, he turns to Lucroy for help and support and step by step they form an unbreakable bond.
Lucroy is the owner of Dusk, the club where all paranormal’s are welcome, and where Phil, Peaches best friend was the most unlikely bouncer. After saving Peaches from harm at the trial they start to regularly ring and visit each other. There are many hurdles for them to overcome before their friendship deepens into much more. An old vampire cautionary tale that places pixies blood as hazardous to vampires. Jealous vampires determined to overthrow Lucroy’s leadership, who see Peaches as the perfect target and excuse for their machinations. I loved the way Lucroy uncovers the plotting and plots his own revenge lulling his enemies into a sense of false security.
I felt for both Lucroy and Peaches as they grappled with what it would mean for both to pursue a relationship with each other. Peaches loves the sunlight and is bonded to the orchard so can’t leave it for any length of time. Lucroy lives in the night and runs his club in the city, they are both Night and Day, how can they make this work?
It was great to see Phil, Sedrick and the children pop up in this book and see how their relationship is progressing after the drama of book one. I really liked the Sprites, they are such buzzy, happy, little things that light up the orchard, literally light up the orchard.
There is a lot of drama and tension in this book, with twists and turns as Peaches and Lucroy work out, friend from foe and surprise themselves with the lengths they will both go to protect each other. Pixies are tough and will not stand by when the one they love is in danger, even when they know Vampires are apex predators who can look after themselves.
Another great book in this series and I’m looking forward to what happens next. Pixies are turning out to be my new paranormal favourites.
