There are many words for what Oliver does for a living, and none of them are very kind.
But Oliver’s time in that industry is nearly at an end, so when a gorgeous older man with sad eyes tumbles into his path, Oliver finds it impossible turn him away.
Victor looks at him like he’s an angel, even when Oliver feels like a devil, but he knows better than to hope. After all, men like them are only ever destined for star-crossed love.
But as months of separation carry on, Oliver realizes that maybe he really is willing to fight for what he wants.
And, more importantly, for who.
Halo is a stand-alone novel featuring an age gap romance, the best hot wings known to man, the merits of good gas station burritos, aquarium dates, meteor showers, lava lamp mood lighting, kissing hands, and the most hard-won happily ever after you may ever read.
REVIEW:
Victor and Oliver are, on the face of it opposites, in every way. Victor comes from a monied background and is running the family business with 2 friends.
Oliver is a child of the state system, he has no family and is used to only relying in himself. Oliver is determined to not have any debt when he leaves graduate school so works as a male escort.
Victor may have money, but he doesn’t have a good life. He finds his fiancé cheating on him with his best friend who is also a fellow partner in their business. He suffers from cerebral palsy and has been treated badly both by his parents & “friends” because of it.
When Victor gets in the wrong car whilst on what should have been his honeymoon, he meets Oliver. Oliver is there to meet a client but when a very sad Victor gets in his car, he doesn’t confess to not being his driver as he wants to cheer up this unhappy man.
Oliver sees Victor for Victor, not as just his money or his condition. He recognises him as someone worth loving. Oliver falls for Victor despite not wanting to because they only have a short time together.
Victor doesn’t see Oliver as just a sex worker. He recognises Oliver as someone who actually sees him and makes him feel worthy of being loved, he is no longer someone who has to be grateful for what he can get. Victor knows he is falling in love with Oliver. Can he ever wish that it can be forever.
E.M. Lindsey has written the main characters in this book so well. Both have their own issues due to their up bringing’s, they both struggle in life. They are the under dogs that you really want to succeed. You want them to have their happy ever after. They really deserve it!
It’s not just the main characters that are written well. We meet Eli the 3rd business partner and I really hope he gets a book of his own after his own moment of realisation about his behaviour.
Despite the angst in the characters lives this book is a really sweet romance. The characters have pet names for each and there are romantic dates and gestures throughout the book. I am so glad for the happy ever after.
