BLURB:
What if your imaginary friend wasn’t so imaginary after all?
Detective Jude Byrne, sick of working alleged cases of infidelity, takes on client Sam Jones, a man looking to reconnect with his first love. As the search for Greta begins, Jude realizes Sam might be the reason his lost love has fallen off the grid. Determined to discover the truth at all costs, Jude tracks down the woman, who has her own version of events, making him wonder if Sam is more dangerous than he originally thought.
Meanwhile, psychic Copeland Forbes has his hands full with West Side Magick’s newest employee, tarot reader, Bozeman Fields. The two were business rivals during their days in New Orleans until Bozeman mysteriously closed up shop and inexplicably vanished ten years ago. Cope senses there’s something off about the man when he hears him arguing with himself in a seemingly empty room, but bides his time as no one else notices anything is amiss.
While keeping an eye on Bozeman, Cope overhears him yelling at an unseen foe, threatening to kill whoever is harassing him. When questioned about the bizarre incident, the psychic breaks down and tells a harrowing story about Indigo, his imaginary friend from childhood, who refuses to leave his side.
Who is Indigo? What is his endgame? More importantly, why has Jude and Cope’s young son started talking to an imaginary friend of his own?
REVIEW:
Book 15 in the Haunted Souls does not disappoint.
Disclaimers – you need to read the previous 14 and the previous series cold case psychics. All the characters from the previous series, play key roles in this newest addition to the Haunted Souls series.
I love the return to Copelands roots with this story. He and Jude are the cornerstone couple of this series. When reading these stories, this one, I want to be an observer of Pandora’s mind as she comes up with these plots, cause, seriously it’s got to be a wonderfully wild place to be.
As always, she excels with the world building and each book gets better and better. Her prose is so good. She has a great mix of humor, drama, and sarcasm.
“Maybe Ronan was right and Bozeman leaving New Orleans in the middle of the night wasn’t suspicious at all. Maybe Cope was barking up the wrong tree. Maybe Cope was wrong about their new employee. And maybe a rainbow would shoot out of his ass while he danced an Irish jig.”
Her characters are becoming deeper as well. In this one we see her expand the side characters and bring in a heavy-duty bad guy. I have many unpleasant things I’d like to do to him. I love how we get to see Everly’s evolution from a baby to a young lady and the evolution of her powers. Remind me not to get on her bad side. She is one fierce young lady.
One of the things that I enjoy the most about this story and all the previous books, is the common theme of found family. I felt this book especially embraced those values, as they embrace Bozeman and fold him into this wonderful group, I affectionately call the Scooby Gang.
I love how these stories and series build on each other. Sometimes, when the main characters get their happily ever after, I want to see how they are doing, not just dropped off the face of the earth to never be heard from again. Thank you, Pandora Pine, for bringing this wonderful group into my life. I can’t wait for the next round of books.
So, in case I left any doubt- RUN to your favorite eBook purchasing site and grab the new Haunted Souls book 15.
