REVIEW:
Let me start this off by saying that I enjoyed reading this book. At first, after reading the blurb, I was very confused about what to expect, but somehow it made perfect sense while reading the actual book.
I think the characters you can find in the book are properly worked out. Ralph, Jodi’s husband, had so many red flags that I am happy Jodi woke up married to her best friend Christine instead. The way the whole story started reminded me of a 50s-style housewife story, as if reading a historical romance, with the dynamics Ralph and Jodi had. The only moment, in which you could read that it was a modern-day story, was when Jodi was with Christine. Christine is everything you want in a partner; she is patient, she is loving, and she supported Jodi through everything in the new universe. On top of that, to show the worked-out characters, the author made sure to add some typical phrases that Christine, for example, used throughout the story multiple times. I enjoyed reading these recurring phrases or seeing the same language use for each character. Moving on from Christine to Jodi, she started to get on my nerves as her behaviour became quite pushy sometimes, especially nearing the end when we had already had a few spicy scenes. The spicy scenes need to be addressed as well. Truly, the author did a great job with those. The details and descriptions were great, I enjoyed reading them.
The whole story is written from the first point of view, which is the best choice the author could have made, as that gives Jodi’s struggle with her sexuality an extra layer as the reader can read along with her every thought. It did add to my frustration around Jodi’s behaviour as well, though. As the reader, you have to read every thought going through her head that leads up to her doing the things she does and says, which at moments really bothered me.
The storyline itself was great. It was captivating and very intriguing, however, it was quite rushed from time to time. It felt as if the author wanted to put as much into the storyline as possible, which caused some scenes, some parts, to be a bit bland and superficial, while there was so much potential. Near the end, a whole new thing got revealed, which seemed a bit misplaced, yet it fell perfectly in line with the amount of information and the amount of storyline the author tried to put into the story. Speaking of the end, prepare yourself for the end, I enjoyed it thoroughly, and I have to applaud the author for it, you did really great there.
