You never know what’s hiding under your bed…
At twenty-four, Cody has already lost hope of having a life of his own. All his time is spent playing nurse to a dying, spiteful step-father and maid to his bully half-brother. His only escapes are playing his favorite online fantasy game, Black Oasis, and talking to the strange, unearthly presence under his bed that may or may not actually exist.
But everything changes when his nightly visitor, who introduces himself as Nor, starts talking back.
As their connection deepens, Nor invites Cody into the surreal world existing just beyond his nightmares, filled with haughty demons, passion-killing pet bugs named Gef, and a dark landscape that is oddly familiar. With his sweet but monstrous companion by his side, Cody might finally gain the life of freedom and adventure that he’s always wanted.
Join Nor and Cody as they unearth the true meaning of hope, passion, and a love of endless depths that spans between worlds in Whispers in the Dark, the first book in Knight and Mayne’s co-authored queer, monster romance series, Black Oasis.
Whispers in the Dark is an M/M monster romance full of hurt/comfort, angst, humor, and a sweet, spicy love between a redheaded Texan and his precious, six-fingered Deepdweller. This love story contains explicit content and is not suitable for young readers. Be sure to check the Trigger Warnings at the beginning of the book for more details.
REVIEW:
Cody lives under bad and miserable circumstances, he takes full-time care of his hateful sick stepdad, his apathetic mom doesn’t give a crap about his existence, and he got bullied by his creepy possessive stepbrother Brad. All this stress happens by day, at night nightmares torture him.
Cody has one thing to relax with, the game Black Oasis, a fantasy world where he created a creature with all the capabilities he hasn’t in real life.
With all the abuse outside his bedroom door, the noises under his bed aren’t that frightening. It’s even comforting, certainly when he gets to know the visitor’s name, Nor, and it seems that Nor protects him while he sleeps.
A bond is forming between the human and the monster, it turns from friendly into passionate, and it got downright erotic and arousing af!!
(I’m not gonna describe Nor’s features, it’s something you have to discover yourself)
Cody is curious about Nor’s world, and Nor takes him with him. Cody loves Nor’s world and hove.
A world that seems a bit familiar to Cody… Black Oasis!
Prepare yourself for an absolutely amazing world. Meet Nor’s best friend Lau, an arrogant horned demon who hates humans and shows it, and meet Gef, Nor’s many-legged pet who hisses at Cody. They’re sarcastic humor, there’s hilariously sabotaging, and just extremely wonderfully written!
Alternating between two worlds Cody still has to take care of his terminally ill stepdad and endure his continually drunk, lurking stepbrother.
The authors took us into a stunningly created world of Nor. The creatures there are, just like Nor, exceptional and surreal, and all amazingly pictured. At times the story was super sweet, other times gritty, and harsh, and the sexual encounters were innovative and arousing.
It was all breathtaking, enthralling, and hugely entertaining.
This story is downright a winner!
